Kenya Publishers Association hold regional book fair in Kisumu.

THE Kenya Publishers Association is holding a four-day regional book fair in Kisumu for the first time.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Publishers Association {KPA} James Odhiambo said this is the first event for Kisumu County.

He says the event is being held from today till Saturday this week at Jomo Kenyatta Sports Ground.
Addressing the press in Kisumu today ahead of the official opening of the regional book fair for Kisumu County, Odhiambo said this year’s Theme is read, Apply and Freedom.

He says a total of 35 Publishers of different text books participating in this year’s annual event held per county.

Odhiambo says last year the association held the event in Kericho County, adding that they will be in Mombasa next year.

He said the Association is trying to urge people to have a reading culture.

He adds that the event is trying to bring textbooks closer to members of the Public, adding this is aimed at enhancing reading culture.

“We are trying to urge people to continue having a reading culture,” he said.

He said most of the Publishers have text books on the new Curriculum known as Competency Based Curriculum which is being implemented across the country.

Blaise Mwangi, the Public Relations and Brand Manager with the Moran Publishers said they are in the Lakeside city so as to showcase their products which are books they publish.

He said as a publisher, Moran Publishers they have extended discount to customers who will visit place during the regional book fare to buy text books.

He says this is also an opportunity for publishers to showcase the textbooks they have for the new curriculum system of education known as Competency Based Curriculum which is being implemented.

“We also have autobiography of prominent people as well as general books which the public can read and enjoy their content,” Mwangi said.

Moran Publishers, Oxford Publishers, Storymoja Publishers, Spotlight {EA} Publishers, Spear Sharp Publishers, Scripture Union among others are some of the publishers taking part in the four-day event.
