Kisumu leaders condemn heckling of Raila on special economic zone project.

A section of leaders in Kisumu County have condemned the yesterday’s incident where Opposition Leader Raila Odinga was heckled in presence of three Cabinet Secretaries on issue of establishing a Special Economic Project in Kisumu County.

The first to fire the salvo and apologized to the Opposition is Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang Nyong’o who has termed the incident as a very unfortunate one.

Nyong’o says the people of Muhoroni sub-county and Kisumu County as a whole are committed to the development of the county.

Nyong’o who is out of the country and is now in Denmark to negotiate the second phase Danish/Kenyan partnership on circular economy that will now involve counties said they will not be deterred from continuing with changing Kisumu economy for the better to please a few visionless people.

“It is regrettable that a small band of engineered ‘nay sayers’ who have deliberately decided to resist development in the county as a whole purely for political mileage decided to embarrass our guest. For this, I apologize,”   Nyong’o said in a press statement signed on his behalf by Press Secretary.

Nominated Senator Rose Nyamunga the 500 acres land should be developed because it has been lying idle for a long time.

She said the heckling was not healthy hence such people who did it should not be condoned at all cost.

Nyamunga said those who are out to oppose the project should wait until it is completed first.
Nominated MCA at the County Assembly of Kisumu Calleb Omoro also condemned the incident saying it is very unfortunate.

He said the public should embrace such a project because it comes with a lot of benefit.

Meanwhile , a Member of the county Assembly of Kisumu representing Ombeyi ward where Opposition leader Raila Odinga was yesterday heckled by a section of the youth who were opposed to the issue of establishing a special Economic Zone project in the area has apologized.

Vitalis Otura, the Member of the county Assembly representing Ombeyi ward has said the incident that occurred at Kang’o Village within the ward when Opposition Leader Raila Odinga went to talk to the local community over the issue of establishing an Industrial Park under Special Economic Zone in a 500 acres of land in the area.

Addressing the media within the precincts of the County Assembly of Kisumu today, Otura claimed that the heckling was pre-planned and was stage managed by a section of political leaders from the region who are strongly opposing the project hence want the public help them to settle some political scores.

Otura who has condemned the act in the strongest terms possible said the residents of the area really needs development hence the need to embrace the issue of Special Economic Zone.

He said such a project will greatly help in opening up of such areas which have lagged behind in terms of development since time immemorial.

“We need development because the youth needs to have jobs so as to stop being idle hence the need for establishment of such projects,” Otura said.
