Girls in Kisumu to be trained at NITA under NGAAF, Buyu says.
KISUMU County National Government Affirmative Action
Fund (NGAAF) plans to send another batch of 210 girls from the county to study
different courses in National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) this year.
The County Woman Representative Rosa Buyu says this
is the second time NGAAF is sponsoring students to NITA after sending another
210 last year.
Buyu says the sponsorship targets girls who scored
grade D in High School and below so that they can find something to study for
their future.
“Our girls face a lot of challenges when they just
sit idle at home, this course will give them the best opportunity to learn art
work and employ after study,” she said.
Among the courses lined up for the study includes
plumbing, electrician, hair dressing, dress making, tilling among others.
She says most girls in that category might not be
intellectual brain wise but are able to perform well in other art and craft
activities.
Buyu urged parents in the county to visit sub counties
NGAAF offices to be able to fill the forms and qualify for the free trainings.
“The deadline of application elapses on 20th
this month and the girls will proceed to a three months course in any of the
NITA branches in Kisumu, Nairobi, Athi River and Mombasa,” she said.
Buyu further announced that the girls will qualify
for a three months internship, thereafter plunge into the job market.
Out of the 210 girls that graduated last year, Buyu
said over 70 were absorbed into the places where they were doing their
attachments.
Speaking to residents of Muhoroni/Koru and Chemelil
wards in Muhoroni constituency when she gave out NGAAF cheques worth Sh. 3.2
million to different groups, Buyu says girls should not shun courses that had
been a reserve for only boys.
She says Kisumu Port is close to being ready and
there will be jobs available for only those with trainings in irrelevant
fields.
Buyu says the community must seize the opportunity
by ensuring they send their children to vocational trainings.
“The port is near completion and the government is
about to start the establishment of the economic zone in the county, I want our
girls to arm themselves with relevant courses to be able to work in the new
establishments,” she said.
She further toured Masogo/Nyangoma, Ombeyi and
Miwani wards giving out cheques with Muhoroni Constituency getting over Sh. 6
million for groups to spur their economic growth.
Buyu said she will be reaching out to women, youth
and persons living with disability groups to be able to offer them cheques
after the qualified.
Most groups intend to expand their table banking,
poultry and fruit farming amongst others.
She urged the groups that missed out in the
disbursement due to failure to submit relevant documents to ensure they comply
next year when the same fund will be rolled out.
The beneficiaries lauded the move by Hon Buyu for
coming to their aid in order to uplift their living conditions.
Anne Chepkwony, who has benefited from the fund
says her group that has been in the forefront to in keeping poultry and tree
planting will increase their stock.
“My group is seeing such thing for the first time,
we live in the border and technically we are in Kisumu County. We are happy
that we have not been discriminated in the disbursement of the funds.
Ends.
