Casual workers
cleaning the city should be paid through the City management, Achar says.
All Casual workers doing the cleaning work within the
streets of Kisumu City should be paid through a private company that the City
Management of Kisumu contracted for the job.
Kisumu County Executive Committee Member in charge of
Finance and Economic Planning Nerry Achar says a private company known as
Monovick was contracted by the City Management of Kisumu and hired the casual workers
tasked with cleaning the city hence they should be paid through it via the
Management of Kisumu City.
Addressing the press
at his office in Kisumu today, Achar said the issue of the casual workers
cleaning the city claiming that they have not been paid their monthly salaries
for five months should not arise because already the company contracted for the
work has been paid.
Achar says the casual workers have not been permanently
employed by the County Government of Kisumu but on a temporary basis by the
said private company.
“The Casuals workers cleaning the city of Kisumu are not
employed by the County Government of Kisumu but are temporarily been employed
by a private company known as Monovick Entreprises. We have paid the Company as
per the contract we signed with it,” Achar said.
He says if the private company has not paid the workers as
alleged then it should do so because the County Government of Kisumu through
the City Management of Kisumu has duly paid it as per the contract.
“If it is true that the company has not paid the workers,
then we will have a meeting with it so as to know the reasons as to why,” Achar
adds.
Achar says already the Kisumu County have instituted a way
on wanting to recruit workers who will be doing cleaning activities within the
city upon employed by the County Government of Kisumu.
“The Kisumu County Public Service Board intends to employ
workers who will be doing cleaning activities within the city and they will be
employed through the City Management of Kisumu,” Achar adds.
Achar at the same time say that already the county
government of has paid the employees’ salaries for the month of July this year,
adding that most of the employees have received their July pay with only those
with Bank accounts at Equity Bank are the ones who are yet to receive their
salary.
