Kisumu Youth Caucus want CEC Finance sacked due to alleged incompetence.

A SECTION of the youth fraternity in Kisumu County now want the County Executive Committee Member in Charge of  Finance and Economic Planning at the County Government of Kisumu to be sacked immediately due to what they  have termed as being incompetent.

The Youth under the banner of the Youth Caucus of Kisumu want the CEC Finance and Economic Planning Nerry Achar to leave the office immediately by Tuesday next week after accusing him of being incompetent and allegedly engaging in corrupt activities failure to which they have threatened to forcefully evict him from the said office.

Addressing the press in Kisumu yesterday to register their displeasure with the Finance CEC, the youth led by Philip Pande who read the press statement on behalf of his colleagues claim that the office of the CEC Finance has failed to pay contractors who have done some businesses with the County Government of Kisumu.

“The World Bank report released in May 2019, detailed how non-payment of contractors was stifling local economies and the ever increasing pending bills had contributed to failing businesses, auctioned premises, desolate families and Poverty. This situation is more real in Kisumu than any other county in Kenya,” they said in a press statement.

They have further accused the CEC Finance of failure to publicly avail statutory information expected from his docket of finance and Economic Planning including the quarterly budget reports, finance reports, the debt management plan, budget estimates documents and the Annual Development Plan for public to peruse.

They have also accused Achar of never appreciating decentralization of services in the county, adding that he has allegedly introduced layers and layers of bureaucracies leading to absolute inefficiency in the county’s operations.

“In our quest to stick with good vision of Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang Nyong’o hold for the youth of Kisumu County, Mr. Achar has consistently remained a thorn and a wound in that journey. He is the greatest impediment to accessing opportunities and further implementation of the Governor’s manifesto. Both our confidence and patience are gone and he must be dropped,” they further said.

The Youth Caucus of Kisumu has lauded the County Assembly of Kisumu’s recent move to table a motion before it to impeach the CEC Finance, adding that they fully support the move.

They have asked the county assembly not to relent about the move of conducting the impeachment against the finance CEC.

When this writer contacted the Kisumu county CEC Finance Nerry Achar, he was not available to comment on the matter as his cellphone was off when called at around 1:32pm and by the time of going to press, he neither called back nor sent a short text message.

The youth sentiments comes barely a few days after the MCAs of the County Assembly of Kisumu vowed not to transact any business with Nerry Achar as the CEC in charge of finance and economic planning.

This followed the recommendation of a select committee that was formed to look into the allegation that were leveled against the Kisumu County CEC finance.

Achar has since moved to court where he obtained a court order barring the County Assembly from impeaching him.
