Government to use about shs 0.5B to refurbish all NITA Centers.

The National Government has plans to use an estimated shs 0.5 billion in refurbishing all the National Industrial Training Authority Centers across the country so as to help in the training on issues of manufacturing as one of the Big Four Agenda.

Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Labour and Social Services Engineer Peter Tum said the funds will be used in modernizing all the NITA centers across the country so as to be in the required standards aimed at re-skilling.

Tum says the Government is very much committed in ensuring that the manufacturing which is part of the Agenda four of the National Government is fully realized.

He says the Ministry is trying to do the re-skilling in the NITA centers across the country because of the current technology, adding that with the focus in the big four agenda there is need for serious re-skilling.

“With the focus on the Big Four Agenda, we are assured of having the right skills that will be required,” PS says.

He says refurbishing means modernizing the workshops as well as re-training the trainers in the NITA training facilities.

He says the Ministry of Labour is currently working on labour migration due to the various skills the country currently has, adding that this has been as a result of the kind of re-skilling.

“The Ministry of Labour is currently carrying out what is known as labour migration as a result of the kind of re-skilling where the excess labour skills are now exported outside this country,” he adds.

The Principal Secretary adds that the Ministry is looking for partnership with some partners to come in and assist in terms of equipment among others, adding that there is need to focus apparel sector for the purpose of manufacturing.

“We are focused in terms having the necessary resources for purposes of re-skilling and skilling of the youth,” he further says.
