Nyando MP calls for
thorough investigations into the killing of 6 youths mistakenly
NYANDO Member of Parliament Jared Okello has called upon the
police to carry out thorough investigations so as to ascertain what transpired
that has led to the brutal killing of six bouncers from the area through
mistaken identity in Busia County.
Okello says the incident that happened yesterday in within
Bumala in Busia County is very unfortunate thus needs thorough investigations
so as to know what really happened that has led to the deaths of the six youth
from Nyando constituency who went to Busia County to provide security in a
funeral as bouncers.
Addressing the mourners at a home of one of the victims
today, Nyando Member of Parliament said the constituency has lost energetic
youth who have been killed through mistaken identity after the locals pounced
on them while suspecting them to be the killers of a businessman who was found
dead two weeks ago.
The lawmaker says the youth were part of the group who went
to the funeral of their brother in law who has married their sister from Nyando
constituency hence killed through mistaken identity.
“We lost one of our brothers in law in Busia County and
people from our area in Nyando choose to go and mourn with the bereaved family but
rumor started going round that they were thugs who was part of the gang that believed
to have killed the husband of our sister and the community rose against them
killing them instantly,” Okello says.
Okello says all those who have participated into the
killings of the six youths should be brought to book and charged before the
court as well as those who killed the businessman two week ago.
The Lawmaker wondered how six lives have been lost through
such a bizarre incident without the local administration and the police intervening
in good time.
Okello has described the youth as hard working and
promising, adding that their lives have been cut short at the time they are
needed most.
“We are collaborating with the police so as to know what
actually transpired and we are asking our people to be calm as the police are
doing their investigative work,” Okello adds.
By the time of going to press, Nyando MP and his team were organizing
on how the six bodies of the slain youth were to be transported from Busia to
Ahero Sub-County Hospital Mortuary.
However, a source within Busia County hospital where the
bodies were kept said that the police insisted that a postmortem must be
conducted on the six bodies before being removed to another destination.
By the time of going to press, the autopsy had was being conducted
on the first body of the victim.
Meanwhile, a somber mood engulfed the homes of the six
victims in Nyando as their news about their killing was received with a lot of
sorrows last night.
Mourners trooped into the homes of the departed youth within
Kakola area where they went to condole with the bereaved families.
The six slain bouncers were reportedly hired by a woman so
as to provide security services at a funeral of her husband on Friday after she
claimed that irate villagers would not allow her to funeral after she was
suspected of participated in the killing of her husband.
The woman was said to have denied that she is the one who facilitated
the coming of the six bouncers to the funeral with an aim of providing security
services.
It was at that juncture that the irate villagers including
boda boda operators reportedly pounced on the six killing them at different
scenes.

It is something that must be condemned in the strongest term possible. It is heinous act, barbaric, uncouth and uncalled for.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very sad moment for the people of nyando.my heartfelt condolences to the family and the entire constituency if Nyando. Rest in peace friends
ReplyDeleteVery sad moment for the people of Nyando,
ReplyDeleteWhat qualifies one to be a bouncer, is there a training to learn some defence techniques. These were not real bouncers, they went for money
ReplyDeleteAs leaders send condolences its quite sad that the six met their death in such a situation called "security" provision. The question is, does the leadership that control resources believe in uplifting the youths from their current situations or is it simply crocodile tears for political expedience ? Come the funeral day the same leaders who are sending condolences will be the same ones hiring other youths to provide the said "security".
ReplyDeleteThis issue has come to the fore coz its a big number that has been murdered, how many single cases go unreported out of this "security" provision issue ?
With devolution here to stay its clear that effects of lopsided policies created by the local assemblies that create social imbalances will be felt and our youths shall be the biggest casualties. This I believe should be a national concern.
Our local leadership should look into where each county has a comparative advantage and develope policies and allocate resources that shall enhance job creation for the youths as well us business growth so that such situations are avoided.
RIP yawuot Nyando.
Our condolences to the young families left behind.it is high time our leaders look into youth empowerment from a different perspective loosing such people is a big lose not to nyando alone but Kenya at large.we call upon speedy investigation.RIP YAWUOT NYANDO
ReplyDeleteIts quite unfortunate for our people to die such cluel deaths yet security administration officers are deployed country wide, its wrong and we won't take it lightly let justice prevail sooner than soonest
