Govt told to give bursary to needy students to avoid being sent away

THE Government has been urged to give bursary to needy students to avoid being sent away from school for fees arrears.

President of Mwalimu James Japheth Mwamu Foundation says both the National Government and the County Governments should move swiftly and give bursaries to the needy students without any further delay.

Addressing students of Renja Mixed secondary school in Kisumu East Constituency after awarding the best student from the school in the last year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education {KCSE} examination, the Foundation’s President James Aggrey Mwamu said by doing so it will ensure that the students remain in schools for adequate learning.

Mwamu says there has been a delay in the disbursement of the bursary to schools from both the national government and County Governments.

“We urge both the National and County Governments to speed up the process of disbursing the bursaries to needy students. This is because a number of them have been sent away from school to go and look for the fee arrears they owe the school,” Mwamu says.

Mwamu at the same time urged the parents who can afford paying fees to continue doing so for their children thus allow schools run smoothly.

Mwamu’s sentiment comes barely a few days after Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha told school authorities to tell parents to pay fee failure to which their children will be sent home for school fees.

Meanwhile, Mwalimu James Japheth Mwamu has distributed covid-19 kits to 49 schools in Kisumu County.

The Foundation has distributed hand washing tanks, face masks and sanitizers to students and pupils in 49 schools.

The Foundation’s President James Mwamu while speaking at Rarieda Kaloo Primary school which is the 49th school to benefit from the kitty, Mwamu says the issue of Covid-19 disease is real and people needs to take the Ministry of health guidelines on Covid-19.
