Knut tells Knec to pay teachers hired for exams immediately

The Kenya National Union of Teachers has asked the Country’s National Exams body to pay teachers who have been hired to supervise, invigilate and mark the Nationals exams.

The Secretary General of the  Kenya National Union of Teachers{KNUT} Collins Oyuu says the Kenya National Examination Council{KNEC} has taken teachers they hire to supervise, invigilate and mark the national examinations for granted hence it does pay them in time.

Speaking in Rarieda area during a funeral on Saturday, the Knut Boss said this time round it will never be business as usual for the Kenya National Examination Council if it does not pay those teachers hired to handle exams in time.

Oyuu has accused  the Kenya National Examinations Council of not been serious with the National Examinations it has the responsibility to manage across the country.

He says the issue of the delayed payment by Knec after teachers have supervised, invigilated and marked the exams have left many teachers to have a very negative attitude towards the national exams.

“Teachers have volunteered to work and they are not even paid allowances and only paid what is known as honorarium and this has never been paid in time,” the Knut boss says.

He has called upon the Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya National Examination Council to ensure that such payments are done immediately after the National Examination exercise is concluded.

This Year’s National Examinations has kicked off today with the class eight candidates sitting the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education{KCPE} and Grade Six candidates are tackling their KPSEA.

The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education Exams for this year will kick off on November 6 after the KCPE and KPSEA are over by Wednesday this week.
