Organization set to build 30 modern houses to benefit less fortunate persons in Nyando
A TOTAL of 30 people from Nyando Constituency are set to benefit from a housing project that will be undertaken by the Habitat for Humanity Kenya.
Habitat for Humanity Kenya says it will build the 30 modern houses to benefit 30 people who are very needy within Kochogo South in Nyando constituency.
The Organization’s Programs Director Nick Otieno says they will partner with another organization to ensure that the project is a success to the people of Kochogo South.
Otieno says their Organization has already issued commitment letters to the 30 beneficiaries, adding that the construction will be commenced.
He says they will also construct 30 pit latrines within the said 30 homes where modern houses will be build for the beneficiaries.
Addressing the residents of Kochogo South during the handing over process of five water Kiosks that the Habitat for Humanity Organization has constructed for residents of Kochogo South at an estimated cost of shs 15 Million together with a borehole being powered by the Solar system, Otieno said the Borehole is producing 20 cubic meters of water per hour.
He says the water project is covering about 800 families within Kochogo South in Nyando Constituency.
The water Project is run by the Kochogo South Community Based Organization{CBO}.
Two schools with have also benefited from the water project as well as getting eight door pit latrine within their compounds. They are Disi and Nyomwaro Primary schools within Kochogo South.
The Programs Director at the same time says four secondary schools in Nyando Constituency are set to benefit from a computer laboratory project.
He says the four schools are Ahero Girls, Onjiko High school, Kochogo High School and Disi Secondary schools.
He has thanked the Community of Kochogo South for welcoming the water project.
Kisumu Deputy Governor Dr. Mathews Owili who officially presided over the handing over of the water project said they will continue to partner with other organization to help in bringing projects that improve the lives of the people.
Tom Ocharo, Kochogo South CBO Vice Chair says they are very greatful for the project from the Habitat for Humanity Kenya, adding that they will greatly benefit from it as a community.
Melvin Otieno and Siprose Okeyo who hails from the said Sub-Location have thanked the organization for the water project, adding that it will save them time they used to consume while going to fetch water several meters away from River Nyando.
They add that they will now be able to do irrigation in their lands since the water is now plenty for both domestic and use in the farms.
