UDA Party Grass root polls kicks off in Kisumu

The Ruling
Party United Democratic Alliance {UDA} grass root elections have kicked off in
Kisumu peacefully.
A visit by
this writer to some polling stations within the various constituencies in
Kisumu reveals peaceful exercise where the UDA party members converged to elect
their grass root members.
At Victoria
Grounds in Kisumu Central, a number of party members lined up to elect leaders
of their choice.
Similar exercise
was witnessed at Shauri Moyo Grounds within the Kisumu Central Constituency and
at Nyalunya Primary school in Kisumu East Constituency.

Ayugi who is contesting for the UDA Chairmanship in Kisumu County says the
exercise kicked off well in all the 761 Polling stations across Kisumu County.
Addressing
the press after voting at Nyalunya Primary school in Kisumu East Constituency,
Ayugi said already about 500 people had voted by the time of going to press.
He says
there have been a few challenges witnessed in some polling stations within
Muhoroni Constituency ranging from names missing from electronic gadgets but it
has been sorted out.
Ayugi has
urged all the UDA members in Kisumu County to turn up in large numbers and
participate in the grass root elections, adding that it is within its democratic
rights to take part in the Party’s grass root polls.
“We want to
sincerely urge all our registered members within Kisumu County that they come
out in large numbers and vote in leaders they want at the grass root level
because this is their democratic right,” Ayugi says.
On the
issue of zoning, he says most voters within the Luo Community have rejected it
while arguing that various political parties should be given a chance to fill
candidates in every part of the country, adding that zoning should never hinder
democracy at all.
Halaki Dida
who is a member of the UDA Party National Elections Coordination Board says so
far the election has kicked off smoothly with only some gadgets having now
power but the issues has been sorted out by charging them hence election
ongoing without hitches.
He says the
UDA party members have been urged to come for voting using their original Identity
Cards, adding that this offers checks and balances.
“Through
the original IDs, we have been able to identify the voters genuinely and the
exercise has been smooth here in Kisumu,” Dida says.
