Govt warns against Misuse of youth for political gains

The Government has issued a stern warning against the issue of misusing the youth for political gains in the country.

The Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Dr. Raymond Omollo says youths should never be misused for political gains in any way.

Addressing the leaders of the Boda Boda sector in Kisumu County today during a comprehensive meeting, the PS issued a firm warning against the misuse of boda boda sector for criminal or political ends.

The PS has cautioned the Boda Boda riders not to allow themselves to be exploited to perpetrate violence or disrupt public order.

“We must say no to violence. Do not allow yourselves to be used by any individual or politician to cause chaos,” the Interior PS says.

He adds that the boda boda sector across the country must remain focused on lawful and productive work at all times.

On the issue of the Youth empowerment, the  PS says Kenya’s youthful population requires deliberate and sustained intervention, adding that young people must not be exploited to serve narrow political interests.

The PS has highlighted key Government’s initiatives that include affordable housing programs, digital jobs, labour mobility programs and targeted sector engagements such as the present Boda Boda initiatives as part of the broader strategy to expand opportunity and uplifting young Kenyans.

“Our Youth are a critical national resource. We must support them with opportunities, not expose them to exploitation or misuse them,” Dr. Omollo adds.

The PS has encouraged the Boda Boda Operators and members of the public at large to take advantage of the ongoing Government Services including Registration under the Social Health Authority, acquisition of the National Identification Cards, now available for free of charge for the first time applicants and replacements, and participation in the ongoing mass voter registration exercise by the IEBC.

“An ID gives you identity, access to services and enables government to plan effectively. I urge all eligible Kenyans, especially the youth to register as voters and participate in shaping the future of this country,” he adds.
