Nyanza clergy tell Political Parties to retain
their identity as they engage in negotiations
The Nyanza Council of Churches Leaders has urged
political Parties to consider retaining their identities as they engage in Pre
and Post Elections pact.
The Nyanza
Council of Churches Leaders says political parties should ensure that they
retain their identities as the country heads to next year’s General Elections.
Addressing the press in Kisumu today at the Power of
Jesus Around the World Church, the Clergy led by the Nyanza Council of Churches
Leaders Chairman Apostle Dr. Washington Ogonyo Ngede said President
William Ruto had promised to strengthening political parties particularly the ODM
Party promising to ensure that it remain intact after the demise of its leader Raila Odinga.
The Clergy
have appealed to the ODM fraternity to unite
together in favor for development and peace within the Nyanza region and beyond.
On the issue of zoning, the clergy says it will
greatly help in strengthening political parties within the areas where their
strength is.
The Clergy however say zoning should never hinder democracy
from taking place where political parties who are not part of the any political
agreement with any political party should be allowed to field candidates in
regions they want to do so.
They have taken issue with the recent
happenings in Nyanza region where some politicians have begun fighting fellow
community leaders serving in the government through the Broad-Based Government which has been an arrangement between President Dr. William Ruto and the late Hon.
Raila Odinga.
“We appeal to such politicians to
desist from such unnecessary attack and name calling while ganging up against
their own people without proper evidence and let those who have evidence of the
wrong doing by those they allege to be using goons to harass other politicians
come forward and report to the police for quick action to be taken or take such
matters to court if they have sufficient evidence. Other communities are not
busy fighting their leaders to resign from their positions in the Government.
We are greatly amazed by what is happening in Nyanza region where politicians
are out fighting those leaders who are serving the government to resign,” they
say in a signed press statement.
They have further urged all
politicians and leaders to watch their utterances and not to wash their dirty
linen in public as this may slow down development in Nyanza region.
The
clergy have called upon all the elected leaders to work with six elected
Governors in Nyanza region to foster development in the area.
“Proverbs
18{21} says “Death and Life are in the Power
of Tongue and they that love it shall eat the fruits thereof,” Psalms 34{13-14} says “Keep thy Tongue
from evil and thy lips from speaking guile. Depart from evil and do good, seek
peace and pursue it.” 1st Peter
3{10-12} says “For he that will love life and see good days. Let him
refrain his tongue from evil,” says the clergy, adding that this is because
whenever two elephants are fighting, it is the grass that suffers.
The members of the clergy further says
after Kenya gained Independence in 1963, those who were anti-development
ensured that Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and Tom Mboya did not get on well and in
the final end, none ascended to the Presidency, adding that the history should
never repeat itself.
They have recognized the various
development projects that President William Ruto has initiated in Nyanza and
other parts of the country.
“We sincerely appreciate His Excellency President Dr William Ruto PhD,
CGH for the great work he has done in terms of bringing development for
the last three years while touring all parts in Nyanza region and in other
parts of the country, a thing that has never been done by any former President
in the Republic of Kenya,” they further say.
