Ksm County Adopts framework to address pressing security Concerns including Goonism

The Kisumu County Security and Intelligence Committee and the County Government of Kisumu have adopted a six-Point Framework to address pressing security concerns that includes the issue of goons that have been racking havoc in political rallies and public events.

This follows a high level County Security and Intelligence meeting co-chaired by Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang Nyong’o and the Kisumu County Commissioner Mohamed Mwabudzo that has been held today in Kisumu City.

Top on the Six-Point resolution framework is the regulation of Political Security and eradication of goonism where the County Security Committee has promised never to condone unregulated security and commits to provide adequate security on request for functions and activities across the county.

Reading the communiqué of the Joint Kisumu County Security Committee in presence of Kisumu Governor, Kisumu County Commissioner Mohamed Mwabudzo said the other resolution is to streamline and sanitizing the Matatu sector where public transport sector must remain safe and accessible for all citizens.

“The County Government of Kisumu in close coordination with public transport Saccos and National Security agencies will launch a joint operation to weed out criminal elements,” Reads part of the Communiqué.

The other one is to regulate and register Businesses within the County where the County Government will withdraw licenses and permits of enterprises involved in criminal activities.

The other one is the institutionalization of Community Policing via Village Committees where security apparatus are establishing formal Village Security Committees and neighborhood committees so as to improve the Intelligence gathering and foster proactive policing.

Then there is the issue of Tech-Driven surveillance and National-County Synergy where the County Government of Kisumu will work with the National Government to deploy an expansive CCTV network and High-definition cameras will be strategically installed across residential estates and Key public zones to enhance security.

“This Infrastructure will provide real-time monitoring and data to aid law enforcement in identifying, tracking and prosecuting the criminal actors,” the Communiqué further reads.

The other is accelerated rehabilitation/maintenance of street lighting.

“The County Executive and the National Government Security Team shall continue to maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards lawlessness. These resolutions take effect immediately and teams have been dispatched to implement the enforcement roadmaps across all the sub counties in Kisumu County,” the Communiqué concludes.
