Traders in Ahero count huge loses as fire raze down
three business premise
TRADERS at
the Ahero Market within Nyando Constituency in Kisumu County are counting huge
loses as fire has razed down three business premise early this morning.
According
to the Traders who spoke to this writer during a media interview at the Market
today, the fire which begun at around 4:30am caused huge damage as goods worth
about shs 5Million destroyed during the early morning inferno.
Addressing
the Press in Ahero, the Traders led by their Chairman Robert Ouko said they
have borne the brunt of the fire incident that has caused very huge loss and is
suspected to have been caused by an Electric Fault.
Ouko who is
the Chair of the Ahero Business Community says two business people have lost
goods worth an estimated shs 3 Million, adding that other businesses like Kinyozi premise and
Carpentry shops have equally lost goods worth unknown amount of money.
He says the
quick response from the County Government of Kisumu Fire Department Team has helped in containing
the fire which would have caused more huge loss if it had not been contained in
time.
The Chairman
has appealed to the County Government of Kisumu led by Prof Peter Anyang Nyong’o
to consider stationing a fire fighting Engine within Ahero Trading Center since
the area is now a Municipality status.
“We want to
sincerely thanked the County Government of Kisumu under Prof Peter Anyang Nyong’o
who has offered a very quick response to the fire incident that occurred in
Ahero early this morning but we want to challenge it to consider stationing a
fire fighting engine within Ahero to be on a standby for any fire incident that
may occur in future. It will also help to serve areas like Katito and Awasi,”
the Chair says.
He has
further sent his passionate appeal to the political leaders to lend hands so
that the business community who are counting loses as a result of the fire
incident so as to re-start their businesses.
Beatrice
Agolla Omwari, the owner of a Grocery shop says she has lost over a million
shillings as a result of the incident.
She says
she just re-stocked her shop yesterday with various stocks like sacks of maize,
rice and beans in large quantities.
Some members
of the public suspect arson in the Ahero fire incident and has appealed to the police to
fully commence investigations into the incident to ascertain its real cause.
