Kisumu Pioneer Governor plots a comeback

Kisumu’s first Governor has promised to make a comeback in order to finish what he started in 2013 when devolution was ushered in.

The Kisumu County First Governor Jack Ranguma says there is need for him to make a comeback and successfully complete his projects which he initiated when he became the pioneer Governor of Kisumu.

Speaking in Nyando Constituency during a funeral over the Weekend, Governor Ranguma hinted that he will come and vie for his second and final term in office come next year’s General election that is slated for August.

Ranguma says as a pioneer governor, he helped in putting in place structures that the devolved unit in Kisumu required for it to jumpstart.

“I seriously need to make a comeback to Kisumu County to ensure that I serve my second and final term in office as Governor of Kisumu because I believe in the structures that I help to put in place for the devolution to be implemented in Kisumu County,” Ranguma says.

A number of those who were attending the funeral concurred with Ranguma’s decision to make a comeback and vie as the third Governor of Kisumu County.

However, a section hinted that Ranguma had served his one term successfully and there is no need for him to make a comeback and vie for the County’s top most position.

Ranguma’s decision to make a comeback and vie for the gubernatorial seat in the next year’s polls seems to have complicated the arithmetic of the so far contenders for the seat.

Already a number of contestants have declared their interests for the seat to replace the outgoing Kisumu Governor Prof Peter Anyang Nyong’o who is serving his second and final term in office.

Those who have so far declared their Interests for the Kisumu Gubernatorial seat include Kisumu Central Member of Parliament Dr. Joshua Oron, Kisumu Senator Prof Tom Ojienda, Former Kisumu Central Member of Parliament Ken Obura, Kisumu West Member of Parliament Rosa Akinyi Buyu, Nyakach Member of Parliament Joshua Aduma Owuor and Kisumu Deputy Governor Dr. Mathews Owilli.

Nyong’o was elected the second Kisumu Governor on ODM Party ticket in August 2017 where he replaced Governor Ranguma who had served for one term from 2013 to 2017.
