Ksm City Residents make Public Petition over
rising cases of insecurity
Kisumu City
Residents have made a public petition to the Government over what they have
termed as rising cases of insecurity within Kisumu City and its environs.
In written
Public petition through the Kisumu City Residents Voice, the residents want the
Government to firmly deal with the rising cases of insecurity particularly
within Kisumu City.
The Kisumu
City Residents Voice Chairman Audi Ogada says in the recent one week, Kisumu
City has experienced rising cases of insecurity where a number of Lives have
been lost.
Ogada says what is
more worrying is the steady rise of criminal activities in Kisumu County and its
environs. Armed robberies, violent attacks, breaks-in, re-emergence of youth
groups (organized and non-organized), rivalries is causing panic, tension and
anxiety coupled with the reality of joblessness. The trend if allowed to continue is a
horrific disaster in waiting which must be addressed firmly and decisively
without fear or favour.
He says the strongest interface
between politics and security is in the political instruments of well organized
gangs that are often the primary actors in political related violence across
the board.
“Purposely speaking, there is an
urgent need to call for a Multi Sectorial Security Meeting that can help
facilitate communication breakthrough. Let people be included so that they
share their experiences, testimonies and ask questions. Stakeholders will feel
that they are included heard, considered and understood,” Ogada says in his
statement.
He says it his own strong conviction
and belief that security is a shared responsibility of all citizens and therefore
all must have a forum to hear the views of all stakeholders on whatever should
be done to end insecurity in Kisumu because the cause outweighs the risk.
Ogada adds that Kisumu City residents
are leaving in Abject Fear as businesses are closing down early, security
guards (watchmen) are allegedly being hacked daily basis, defilement and rape
cases are on increase, innocent citizens continue to loss their and
livelihoods.
Audi cites several incidences where
lives have been lost in the last few days where a woman was sexually assaulted
and murdered in Manyatta in Kisumu County.
The other incidences are where two
private security officers were killed at Lake Primary school in Kisumu City.
The others were cases where four
security officers were attacked on June 26 this year while two people were
attacked and killed in Manyatta and Ondiek.
