Lawyer supports LSK call for protests over advocates’
killing
A LAWYER
has fully supported the move by the Law Society of Kenya to call for a
nationwide protest by lawyers over the recent killing of two advocates.
Former
President of the East African Law Society Senior Counsel James Aggrey Mwamu
says the call for protest by the Law Society of Kenya is very much in order so
as to show solidarity and express their dissatisfaction over the killing of
their two colleagues early this week.
Addressing the
press at his Kisumu office, Mwamu said the disappearance of the two lawyers
Edward Muthee Kariuki and Esther Wairimu Keige is very unfortunate and must be
properly investigated after they were found killed.
Mwamu says
the work of the Advocates is to defend their clients in court and that does not
mean that they become enemies of the people.
“Don’t turn
advocates into enemies because they simply represent their clients in court. The
Killing of advocates is very unfortunate indeed,” Mwamu says.
Mwamu has
called on the police to ensure the incidences are properly investigated and
suspects brought to book and face the full force of law.
Mwamu’s
sentiment comes barely a few days after the President of the Law Society of
Kenya called for a nationwide protest by Lawyers who will wear yellow ribbon
while condemning the killing of their two colleagues.
The protests
are slated for Friday July 10, 2026 across the country where lawyers will meet
and peacefully protest the killing of the duo advocates.
