Interior CS told to take proactive steps in dealing with goons

The Cabinet Secretary in charge of Interior and National Administration has been told to take proactive steps in dealing with the issue of goons disrupting political rallies and causing mayhem across the country.

Former President of the East African Law Society Senior Counsel James Aggrey Mwamu says the issue of goonism will soon get out of hands if not tamed earlier enough by the state Security led by the Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.

Mwamu says the issue of goons disrupting political gatherings in Nyanza and in some parts of the country is very alarming and must be contained at all cost.

He says the recent happenings in Kisumu where some goons invaded a Church during a Sunday service and disrupted the service is not in order at all, adding that the recent incident in Homa Bay where a political rally was disrupted and roads barricaded to bar a section of politicians to gain entry Homa Bay town are something that must be condemned at all costs.

Mwamu adds that the Last Sunday incident in Migori County where goons disrupted and torch a vehicle belonging to Siaya Governor James Orengo is very unfortunate indeed and should never be condoned at all costs.

“The issue of goons have become too much as they invade churches and disrupt services. They are burning vehicles and this is something that should never be allowed and the Government Must make sure that the issue of goons is dealt with right away,” Mwamu says.

Mwamu observes that Nyanza region has been having peaceful political competitions.

The Senior Counsel says both those who want to champion for one term and two terms should equally be allowed to do so without being gagged in any part of the country, adding  that this should be done using appropriate language during the political rallies being held in different parts of the country.

“Talks like that of some politicians are going to rescue some counties across the country should be shunned at all cost and appropriate language used to lure voters ahead of the 2027 General Elections,” Mwamu adds.

He urges senior politicians to groom well the younger politicians in a language that is appealing to the public, adding that this is very vital while seeking voters from various parts of the country.
