Liberty Life Kenya Introduces Secure Plan to Support Long-Term Financial Goal Achievement

Liberty Life Kenya has   announced the launch of Secure Plan, a flexible, goal-based savings and protection solution designed to help Kenyans plan confidently for the future while providing financial protection against some of life unexpected disruptions.

The solution recognizes that today’s customers are saving towards a wide range of aspirations,

including buying land, building homes, starting businesses, funding further education, planning a

wedding, and creating greater financial freedom for their families.

The launch, built around the idea “One Day Now Has a Date,” challenges a familiar way of

talking about the future. Whether it is “one day I will build my house,” or “ipo siku nitanunua

plot,” many ambitions remain open-ended because life can make long-term commitments

difficult to maintain.

Secure Plan is designed to help customers put a date to those ambitions while protecting the

journey against some of the circumstances that can derail long-term saving.

Unlike conventional savings approaches, the plan combines savings with life assurance and a

guaranteed maturity benefit. It also provides optional protection against permanent total

disability, critical illness, accidental death and retrenchment.

“Most people do not stop dreaming about the future. What often changes is their confidence that

they will be able to keep working towards those dreams when life gets in the way,” said Kieran

Godden, Group Chief Executive Officer, Liberty Kenya.

“Secure Plan is designed around that reality. It allows customers to move from saying ‘one day’

to identifying what they want to achieve, putting a date to it and having a financial plan that is

designed to protect the way.”

The product offers policy terms of between five and 20 years, with sums assured ranging from

KSh250,000 to KSh100 million. Customers can also adjust their premiums and corresponding

sum assured upwards or downwards to reflect changes in their financial circumstances.

For customers seeking additional protection, Secure Plan offers optional benefits including

critical illness cover, permanent total disability cover, double accident benefit and a waiver of

premiums for six months following retrenchment.

The plan is available to individuals from age 18, with joint-life cover also available. Children can

be covered from birth to age 18, subject to the policy terms.

The launch comes against a backdrop of changing financial behaviour, with Liberty recognising

that while Kenyans continue to save through mechanisms such as chamas, SACCOs, money

market funds and other channels, longer-term financial commitments can be disrupted by

unexpected expenses and changes in income.

“The future sounds different when it has a date,” Godden said. “Our ambition is to help more

Kenyans move their goals from ‘one day’ into something they can actively plan and work

towards.”

Liberty Kenya is encouraging customers to identify a specific future goal, put a date to it and

explore how they can build a plan around achieving it.
