Lady urges women not to wait to be given Leadership positions
Women seeking various Leadership positions across Kenya
have been urged not to wait to be given such positions but come out strongly to
get them.
Kenya’s First Lady Rachael Ruto has urged women
seeking leadership positions in various parts of the country to come out and get them without waiting to be
given on a silver plate.
Addressing various women Groups in Kisumu County allied
to Joyful Women Organization, Kenya’s First Lady says immediately after
Independent, some women could come out strongly to vie and get elected in
various leadership positions at the time when politics was male dominated.
She has identified Kenya’s First Woman Mayor and First
female Member of Parliament Mama Grace Onyango who was elected after coming out
strongly to vie for the Seats.
She says long before doors
were routinely opened to women in public life, Mama Grace Onyango broke barriers, becoming
East Africa's first female mayor in 1965 and independent Kenya's first
female Member of Parliament in 1969.
“She did not wait for permission
to lead. She stepped forward and showed what a woman given an opportunity
can achieve,” Rachael says.
The First Lady says it is good to
celebrate women who are following in that spirit, adding that Women transforming
their livelihoods, strengthening their families, and helping shape the future
of Kisumu and great nation of
Kenya.
She has encouraged women to use
the table banking system actively, grow their enterprise, and invite
more women to join,
She says this is because the more
women brought on board, the more families and communities are empowered.
“You have ideas, skills, and
experience passed down from women such as Nyabungu, who never waited for permission
to lead. And if there is a woman here today who has not yet joined Joyful
Women, do not stand on their sidelines,” she says.
She says the Support from Joyful
Women Organization across Kisumu addresses both immediate family needs and
long-term economic opportunities.
“We are distributing 1,005
blankets, 20 bags of uji mix, 40 boxes of soap, 100 mattresses, 300 bags
of rice, and 250 bags of beans to families in need, proving much-needed relief,
comfort, and dignity. We are further providing 10,000 fruit seedlings, 5,000
mango and 5,000 orange seedlings, together with 5,000 vegetable seedlings, to
support food production, enterprise, and stronger livelihoods. Additionally,
we have 20 water tanks that will be donated to various schools in this
constituency,” she further say
