County Government now
employs 700 ECD teachers on permanent basis.
THE County Government of Kisumu has
now employed 700 Early Childhood Development teachers on permanent and
pensionable basis.
Kisumu County Public Service Board Chairman
Eng. Nashon Oguya says the 700 Nursery school teachers were not employed
permanently but now they have been put on permanent employment by the County
Government of Kisumu.
Speaking during the
Kisumu County Annual ECDE Convention held at Tom Mboya Labour College on
Friday, Oguya said the Nursery school teachers will now earn house allowance
and other allowances after being employed on permanent basis.
Oguya says those holding
Diploma in ECD will now earn a basic salary of shs 16,000 plus that of other allowances
while those with Certificate in ECD will earn a basic salary of shs 15,000 and
other allowances.
He said the teachers
were hired earlier on contract basis and were being paid using a voucher.
Oguya at the same time
says, an additional 260 Nursery school teachers will be employed by the Public
Service Board so as to increase the number of ECD teachers within the county.
“We intend to employ
another 260 batch of 260 ECDE teachers across Kisumu County and this will help
in increasing the number of such teachers within our county,” he says.
He adds that the Board
will first look at the budget of the county which will factor in the salary
which will be paid to the additional 260 ECD teachers before they are employed
by the Board.
Kisumu Governor Jack
Ranguma who also attended the occasion says the county Government has outlined
a plan to continue improving the ECDE sector going forward.
“So far, my
administration has constructed 115 modern ECDE Classrooms, Recruited 700 ECDE
teachers and improved their terms from contract to permanent and pensionable,”
Ranguma says.
He says the County
Government has also initiated the free ECDE feeding program as well as
equipping all the ECDE institutions with necessary learning materials.
“These interventions
have seen improvement in enrollment within the ECDE centers and ensured quality
early childhood education in the county,” Ranguma adds.
He says if re-elected as
the Governor for Kisumu County during the next Tuesday’s General Election, he
will ensure he builds a total of 2,250 ECDE Centers in all the public primary
schools across the county by the year 2022 when he term ends after serving two
terms in office as the Governor.
