Nyong’o takes office to tackle 10-point plan within 100 days.

KISUMU New Governor Prof. Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o has taken over the office with a full promise to tackle ten activities within his first 100 days in the office as the second Governor of Kisumu County.

Nyong’o who has officially taken over from immediate former Governor Jack Ranguma after he took oath of office has promised to take Kisumu County to greater heights.

Speaking during his inauguration ceremony at Jomo Kenyatta Sports Ground on Monday, the new Kisumu Governor said he has outline ten activities to tackle within his first 100 days in the office as the county’s Chief Executive Officer.

He says the first thing he will do as the Governor will be to ensure he establishes proper governance in Kisumu City by creating a city management Board and a city Manager.

Nyong’o says he will also be able to clean up the dumpsite at Kachok which has been a big menace to the residents of Kisumu, adding that the solid waste from the dumpsite will be used in making fertilizers and chemicals.

The new Governor says the third thing he will do is to clean up the drainage system in the City of Kisumu as well as initiating the improvement of road networks coupled with cleaning up the Lake front in preparation for further infrastructural improvement to facilitate maritime transport, tourism and regional trade.

Nyong’o says the fourth thing he will tackle is to initiate the modernization of Jubilee, Kibuye and Otonglo markets to improve security of traders, create more space for trading, better sanitation, provision of water and easier access to banking services.

“We plan to revive and use the funds that were given to Kisumu County as a grant under the Kisumu Urban Project to accomplish the city clean-up, clearing of drainages and modernization of markets,” Nyong’o says.

He says he will also establish Village Councils and village administrators as a foundation of devolution, adding that this will now make it possible for public participation in policy making and the evaluation of policy implementation by all members of the public in Kisumu County as required by the constitution.

“This is the only way that the Integrated County Development Plan can legitimately be generated by the people .The Village Councils will immediately oversee public health, sanitation, environmental issues, water provision and access roads in each village of their jurisdiction.

He plans to present to the county assembly a Bill establishing Kisumu County Road Maintenance  Teams{KCRMT} to help in maintaining access roads once they are constructed, adding that this will keep the roads in good shape throughout the seasons while providing employment opportunities for the youth, under the supervision of the village councils.

Nyong’o also plans within his first 100 days in office to take a comprehensive census of all the Community Health Workers in the county and within the context of the County Health Management Bill, make provisions of their monthly salaries and clear terms of service, adding that they are the basic health workers within the villages hence their services cannot be taken for granted.

The new Governor adds that he plans to establish Kisumu Economic and Social Council {KECOSOC} as a county, national and International forum, welcoming the participation of the diaspora; incubating the ideas of youth, women and people with other abilities; providing an arena for discourse between his government and the private sector; and acting as a conduit for investments proposals and initiatives which give his government wise counsel on social-economic development.

He says there is a plan within the next 100 days also to prepare an action plan for the revival of the sugar industry and sustainable development of the sugar industry and present it for discussion with the Kenyan National Government.

His tenth point is about initiating and rejuvenation of the rice industry and the purchase of the JICA tractors which have been non-operational for the last three years due to the impasse between the outgoing county government and the JICA.
