County Commissioner
heckled as Prof. Nyongo' is sworn-in next Kisumu Governor.
A SECTION of Members of the public who have today attended
the swearing-in Ceremony of Prof. Peter Anyang Nyong’o have booed and heckled
Kisumu County Commissioner preventing him from reading a speech from Devolution
Cabinet Secretary.
It all started when an officer at the County
Government of Kisumu who the master of ceremony officially invited Kisumu County Commissioner Maalim Mohamed
to read a speech on behalf of Planning and Devolution Cabinet Secretary Mwangi
Kiunjuri during the inauguration ceremony but the public booed and heckled, not
allowing him to read the Cabinet secretary’s speech.
The public demanded that Governor Nyong’o read his
acceptance speech first before the County Commissioner.
Efforts by the Kisumu County Senator-Elect Fred Outa to calm the unruly crowd urging them to allow the county Commissioner to read the speech fell on
deaf ears as the public insisted that the County Commissioner could not read the
speech.
They did so by chanting anti-National Government’s slogans
while accusing the police of torturing and murdering some protestors during the
last week’s post poll demonstrations in Kisumu.
They have also accused the police of killing a six-month old
baby Samantha Pendo who they claimed police clobbered in their house at
Nyalenda during the post elections protests in Kisumu hence did not want to
hear anything from the National Government.
Kisumu County Senator-Elect Fred Outa addressed the crowd
and invited Governor Nyong’o to give his acceptance speech which he did
candidly amidst cheering from the crowd almost throughout his speech.
Immediately after the new Kisumu Governor Prof. Nyong’o’s
speech, he tried to invite again the county Commissioner to address the
gathering and attempted to read the Cabinet Secretary’s speech but in vain.
The County Commissioner together with Kisumu County Police
Commander left the venue immediately after the incident.
Governor Nyong’o in his speech thanked the residents of
Kisumu County for voting overwhelmingly for him and his Deputy Dr. Mathews
Owili.
He promised to do ten activities within his first 100 days
in the office as the second Governor of Kisumu County among them to establish the
village councils which he says is the epicenter of devolution at the grass root
level.
He has also promised to re-locate the Kachok Dump site away
from where it is currently situated near Mega City premise among other activities.
