Group urges IEBC to ensure due diligence before declaring final poll Results.

THE Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has been urged to ensure due diligence in the remaining electoral process before the final results of the Presidential Election is announced.

The multi-Stakeholder inter-religious group in Kisumu County say before the electoral body declares the final results of the presidential election, it has a duty and responsibility to ensure that the remaining process is carried with due diligence.

Addressing the press in Kisumu on Thursday, the group said IEBC should adequately respond to all the queries raised so far by concerned parties and citizens with respect and courtesy.

In a signed press statement read by Archbishop Winnie Owiti of the Voice of Salvation and Healing Church, the group says the law is very clear on the results transmission which must be done by the forms 34A and B accompanying them to the National Tallying Center.

“It was therefore rather alarming when IEBC chairman came out to publicly announce that the results that were being streamed live on various TV stations had not all been verified as the commission was still waiting for the forms 34A,” they say.

They say such forms must have been transmitted by the Returning Officers across various constituencies in the country to the National Tallying Center after they finished counting of the cast ballot papers.

“One can really tell from your tallying how many polling stations have sent their results, so really you should have the forms, considering as we speak, there is less than 1000 polling stations left to make their returns.

They say there are a number of questions about the conduct of the post voting exercise which the electoral body should clarify if the whole process is to be seen to be credible, free, fair and transparent.

The group has also appealed to the residents of Kisumu and in other parts of the country to remain calm during this verification process.

“Let us remain peaceful as we wait for a credible conclusion to this process and we also urge the security agencies to abide by the law as they continue to provide security to the residents of this great country,” they add.
