I have a lot of engagements and cannot take ODM Nomination slot, Sosion says.

Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Wilson Sossion has said he has many engagements hence has not accepted to take the Orange Democratic Party Nomination to Parliament if granted.

Sosion says the teachers and workers would have been very enthusiastic to see him in parliament as one of their own representing them but due to engagements he has, he cannot again play a legislative role in the National Assembly if nominated.

Speaking in Kisumu during a meeting with teachers with disability who were attending a capacity Building meeting, the Knut Secretary General said there are a lot of emerging issues and engagements and he has no extra ordinary powers to do everything that will be required of him.

The Secretary General says whoever will replace him, should be able to take up the labour relations matters in parliament.

Sossion  hints that apart from being the KNUT secretary General, he is also the general secretary of Trade Union Congress, President of Education International which includes many assignments in the continent and globally.

Sossion adds that some of the tasks involved include organizing teachers in many countries who are difficult to reach like in South Sudan, Somali yet he is asked as an individual to achieve all this.

Sossion however says it was a sign of respect from the party and thanked the party through the leader Raila Odinga for the chance.

He said the party is aware and is currently putting up mechanism to deal with the issue of nominations.
He says they have signed a framework with NASA (ODM) on matters affecting labour movement in regards to teachers.

The Knut Boss denies claims that he was forced to step down for former Bomet governor Isaac Rutto to have the slot as he failed to defend his seat as the county governor.

He said currently within this period to December, he has a lot of programs meeting and conference to attend to and will not get time to be in parliament.

Sossion says that from September 3 to 8, he is expected to be in Zambia to coordinate school related gender based violence issues bringing together seven countries in Africa and he is the secretary general.

“On 11 of November am expected to chair a full irab committee in Ethiopia, on November 14 to 17  am expected to preside over a workshop on refuges  focusing on countries that have destabilized in Africa in Adiss Abbaba,”he says.

He adds that on September 22 he is expected to be in Senegal to attend a conference on the steering committee of teachers, adding that he is also expected to be in London and even New York and will have no time again to be in Parliament.
