Desist from utterances that can divide the country, clergy tells politicians.
POLITICIANS across the political divide in the country have been urged not to engage in utterances that can divide the country.

The Nyanza Council of Church leaders say reckless statements by some politicians can divide this country along tribal and this is not good at all.

In a signed Press statement to newsrooms today by three Clergy Arch Bishop Dr. Washington Ogonyo Ngede, Arch Bishop Julius Otieno and Bishop Jasper Wadegu, the Council’s Chair Arch Bishop Dr. Washington Ogonyo Ngede say politicians should learn the art of uniting Kenyans and not divide them through reckless utterances they make in public.

Ngede says there is need by politicians across the political divide so as to embrace the hand shake that occurred between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga on March 9 this year.

“We the Nyanza Church Leaders take this opportunity to appeal to politicians across the political divide in our beloved country Kenya to fully embrace the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Former Prime Minister Right Honorable Raila Odinga that came into place on March 9, this year,” the council say.

They say Politicians should not kill the spirit of handshake which seems to have a good meaning for this beloved country.

“On January 30 this year, the country was heading to a wrong direction but after the handshake between the two leaders in March, the country begun serious healing process and this should not be derailed through careless political remarks from a section of politicians,” they add.

They say Kenyans had been praying for peace to prevail across the country which Almighty God answered our prayers through handshake.

“We want to state it categorically that we are very much surprised about some utterance by a section of politicians who are claiming that some con men have entered the Government through back door.

Such like a statement is meant to divide Kenyans and not to unite hence should not be encouraged at all,” they further say.

They further add that recent statement attributed to Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen that other ‘Wakora’ have made access to the government is not palatable at all cost hence must be condemned in the strongest terms possible.

The clergy further say the last weekend’s statement by Deputy President William Ruto while in Mombasa claiming Opposition leader Raila Odinga is determined to ensure that he leaves Jubilee Party is not only a reckless statement but also demeaning to the former Prime Minister.

“Calling former Prime Minister as a conman is also uncalled for and such statement should never be accepted,” they further add.

The clergy further say Odinga is a true statesman who is known worldwide and has Kenya at heart hence such utterances should never be directed to him.

“Odinga should be honored and respected as a senior politician in the country because of his endless fight for democracy and good governance. He has saved this country from Political anarchy after the 2007 polls and his contributions towards this should never go to waste,” the clergy further says.

They further add that it is very much vital if this country remains one nation without being divided by reckless political remarks from a section of political leaders whose main agenda is to advance self-political interests.
