Let’s embrace and protect our heritage, CS Achesa says.

SPORTS, Culture and Heritage Cabinet Secretary Rashid Achesa has urged Kenyans to help in protecting their heritage within their areas.

CS Achesa says the country has a very rich heritage in its different parts hence the need for the people to fully embrace and protect their heritage.

Addressing the media at Kit Mikayi Historical site within Seme Sub-County in Kisumu County where he presented its board of management members with letters of the appointment to the board to manage the historical site, Achesa his ministry will ensure that all the heritage sites within the Country are fully protected and safe.

Achesa says the safety of the various heritage sites within the country is very important hence the need to ensure that they are secure.

Achesa says the issue of lack of enough personnel within the various heritage sites like museums will be addressed soon.

“Our heritage sites still face a number of challenges like lack of enough personnel among other issues but we will address all these because we need to embrace and protect our heritage sites across the country,” CS Achesa says.

He adds that some of the heritage sites across the country still have a challenge of lack of proper fences around them and something needs to be done to enhance issues of safety and security to these sites.

Achesa who was accompanied by the Director-General of the National Museums of Kenya Dr. Mzalendo Kibunjia toured the Kisumu National Museums, Kit Mikayi Historical site, Heritage sites in Kakamega county before proceeding to Kang’o ka Jaramogi in Bondo Constituency within Siaya County where he visited the Late Doyen Opposition politics in Kenya Jaramogi Oginga Odinga’s Museum.

It is now 24 years since the Doyen of Opposition politics in the Country Jaramogi Oginga Odinga died on January 20, 1994 aged about 83 years.

Jaramogi is the father of the former Prime Minister and Opposition Leader Raila Odinga
Last week, the Cabinet Secretary visited Coastal region so as to see the various heritage sites in that region with an aim of knowing what challenges they face so as to see a way of strengthening all such sites across the country.
