We have not scrapped
ward development fund, says Governor Ojaamong.
BUSIA Governor Sospeter Ojaamong has clarified that his
executive wing of the County Government has not scrapped the Ward Development as
alleged by a section of Busia County Assembly MCAs.
Ojaamong says the Ward Development Fund is intact in the
County Government’s current supplementary budget which should be tabled at
Assembly for discussion and adoptions.
Addressing the press on the sidelines of a meeting for Busia
County Government Executive and the County Assembly in Kisumu, Ojaamong said
the information which was taken to the MCAs that the Ward Development has been
scrapped from the Supplementary budget is very misleading.
Ojaamong said already his office has received a memorandum
from the MCAs in regard to a number of issues including the ward development
fund.
He says both the executive and the County Assembly should be
meeting so as to fine tune the supplementary budget so that most of the issues the
MCAs want are included in that budget.
“The purpose of this our meeting is to fine tune the
supplementary budget so that most of the issues which the MCAs want included
are there so that it reflects the needs of the people at the Ward level,” he
says.
He says already the executive has done the supplementary
budget and only needs the inputs of the MCAs before it is tabled, discussed and
passed by the County Assembly.
Earlier today, MCAs from Busia County addressed the press
where they talked about giving a memorandum on key issues they want addressed
by the executive wing of the county Government.
Busia County Assembly Majority Leader Laban Wanjala said one
of the issues in their memorandum is implementation status of the 2017/18
Supplementary budget as well as the status LPOs for the 2018/19 Budget.
The other issue they want addressed is the one distribution
of Devolution Support grant of 553 Million on how it will be used.
They also want the executive to explain the issue of Bursary
from the county Government of Busia, adding that pending bursary should be
cleared.
Busia County Assembly Deputy Speaker Lawrence Murunga says
it is quite unfortunate at the pace the projects implementation is taking place
in Busia.
“We have demanded for a written explanation on those issues
we have raised with the executive wing of the county Government,” he says.
He says those peddling lies that the MCAs have been bribed
to stop peddling such lies.
He adds that they don’t have ward funds but ward based
projects where projects are identified at the ward level and the executive
implements them.
