Kisumu County
Commissioner bans Disco Matanga.
KISUMU County Commissioner Pauline Dola has issued a
directive to Sub-County Commissioners and Chiefs to immediately ban the night
time music played in funerals popularly known as Disco Matanga within the
county.
The County Commissioner cites the issue of early pregnancies
among girls and the issue of insecurity in some parts of the country being
caused by the frequent Disco Matanga.
Addressing the residents of Kisumu County during Mashujaa
celebrations today at Jomo Kenyatta Sports Ground, the Kisumu County
Commissioner said that any Chief and their Assistant who will be found issuing
permits to play music at funeral at night popularly known as Dicso matanga will
be dealt with in accordance to the law.
“I want to warn our Chiefs and their Assistants that should
they issue permits to play music at night at funerals within Kisumu County then
they will be dealt with in accordance to the law,” Dola says.
Dola says it is through these Disco Matanga where young
girls engage in immorality resulting into early pregnancies, adding that these
also further contributes to increase of cases of insecurity within the county.
“We have realized that Disco Matanga contributes to insecurity
within some parts of our county. It also contributes the issue of early pregnancies
among the girls and this has now made us to ban it within the entire county
with immediate effect,” Madam Dola adds.
The County Commissioner says children will be staying home for
long during the forthcoming holiday after the KCPE and KCSE Exams concluded hence
the need not to tolerate the issue of disco Matanga at all cost.
At the same time, Kisumu County Commissioner has reiterated
the Governments full commitment in ensuring that the National Examinations that
kicks off next week is secure and safe.
She says in Kisumu County, all the necessary measures have
been put in place so as to ensure safety and security of all exams materials in
all the seven sub-counties within Kisumu County.
She confirms that all the Sub-County Commissioners within
the County have received keys to the various containers where the Kenya
National Examination Council will keep the national exams materials.
The Kisumu County Commissioner has warned that anyone who
will be found in any act of irregularity during the national exams will also be
dealt with accordingly.
“I want to warn people who will engage in any form of
irregularity during this forthcoming National Exams that they will be dealt
with,” she further adds.
