Clergy calls for dialogue on the issue of Kisumu Doctors’ Strike.

THERE should be constructive dialogue between the County Government of Kisumu and the striking Doctors, a clergy has said.

Arch Bishop of the Voice of Salvation and Healing Church International Dr. Winnie Owiti says the spirit of negotiations should be embraced between the two parties so as to help in unlocking the current stalemate that has seen doctors striking.

Addressing the press at her office within the Church’s Headquarters in Kisumu, Arch Bishop Owiti said the church has realized that a number of people in Kisumu County are suffering and they don’t have money to visit private hospitals after the Doctors in public hospitals in Kisumu went on strike nearly two weeks ago hence the need to unlock the impasse.

“We strongly pray that when the New Year begins, we will have a way forward on the issue of the current doctors’ strike so that our people don't continue suffering,” the Arch Bishop says.

Arch Bishop Owiti says it is good to lead people who are healthy and strong, adding that those who are sick should get good health services in public hospitals.

The Clergy has also called for an amicable solution between the County Government of Kisumu and the Jua Kali artisans on the issue of controversy surrounding the construction of a multi-Billion Market that will host about 10,000 traders.

The Doctors in Kisumu County have been on strike now nearly two weeks after they asked the county Government of Kisumu to implement the Collective Bargaining Agreement on promotion and the return to work Agreement that was signed in June this year.

The medics have since refused to pick their promotion letters claiming that what they agreed on has not been included in the letters.

The doctors led by the chairman of the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union Dr. Kevin Osur last week addressed the press and ask the county Government to fully implement the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Kisumu County Executive Committee member in charge of Health and Sanitation Prof. Judith Miguda Atyang early this week told the medics to pick their letters of promotions failure to which the County Government of Kisumu would declare their positions vacant.
