Prime Bank Donates 500 bail of maize flour to the flood victims in Kisumu

Prime Bank Donates 500 bail of maize flour to the flood victims in Kisumu

The community Committee team on Flood Response in Kisumu County continues to receive more donations as Prime Bank donates food items to the kitty.

Prime Bank has today donated 500 bail of maize floor to the Kitty so as to help the victims of the ranging floods which has been caused as a result of the heavy downpour witnessed in the area since November this year.

Addressing the press today at Jomo Kenyatta Sports ground where the kitty has pitched a tent for collections of food items and other goods towards helping the flood Victims, Senior Manager with Prime Bank Kisumu Vipul Buch said the items the bank will donate will worth half a million.

He adds that so far they have donated 500 bails, adding that they will donate a total of 2,000 bail of maize flour which he believes will be of great help to the victims of floods.

He says they are doing this as part of corporate social responsibility towards the local communities.

 “This is one of our corporate social responsibilities that we are trying to discharge as a bank,” Buch says.

Yogi Dawda and Dr Joshua Oron both members of the Committee who have received the donations thanked the Bank for the gesture.

Dawda says so far the donation has been very overwhelming, adding that more well-wishers should give donations to the kitty.

Dr. Joshua Oron says the Bank is a great partner, adding that it has been doing great work in terms of corporate social responsibility.

Oron has appealed to the National Government so as to help the victims of floods in Kisumu County, adding that a lot of items are still needed.

The County Government of Kisumu Director of Special Program Ruth Odinga says the have been trying to support some mitigation measures as a county Government even though the function of disaster management is not fully devolved.

Odinga has sent her appeal to the National Government to consider helping the flood victims by providing food to the citizens, adding that this is its responsibility.

The donations comes barely a few days after Kibos Sugar and Allied Industries Limited early this week donated blankets and sugar bails worth shs 0.5 million to the kitty.

The Community coordinated response team to assist the flood victims in Kisumu County was launched last week at Jomo Kenyatta Sports Ground after the members of Community living in Kisumu County and County Government of Kisumu partnered to make appeal for donations of items and cash.

The Response towards the initiative has been overwhelming as residents of the county are trooping into the venue to donate food and other items to the victims of the floods.

Areas which are mostly affected by the raging floods in Kisumu County include Nyamasao in Ahero Ward, Nyong’onga in West Nyakach ward, Gem Rae, Kanyalwal, Ogenya area in Kabonyo Kanyagwal among other areas.
