West Kenya donates medicines worth shs 200,000 to flood victims in Kisumu.
THE Management of the West Sugar Company Limited has donated
medicines to the victims of flood in Kisumu County.
The medicines are meant to help the victims of flood who have
camped at various rescue centers in Kisumu County following the heavy rains
that caused floods in some parts of Kisumu County.
Addressing the press in Kisumu when he handed over the items
to the Community Committee to assist the Flood victims in Kisumu County on
behalf of the company, Richard Ogendo Secretary General of Kenya Sugarcane
Growers Association said the company has donated the drugs worth shs 200,000.
He says the company has donated this after an appeal has
been made for drugs to be given to the victims of the floods.
He says the drugs will be used in medical camps in Nyamasao
in Nyando and Achuodho area in Muhoroni Constituency.
“The main essence of this is because we are seeing opportunistic
ailments coming up as a result of the floods.We are also have cholera alerts
and we reach out to our partners who have given us the drugs,” Ogendo says.
Ogendo has thanked the West Kenya Managing Director Tejavi
Rai for donating the drugs, adding that the company intend to make more food
donations to the kitty.
“Feeding programs is also going on and West Kenya will also
donate 40 bags of maize, beans among others,” he adds.
Ogendo has appealed to the County Government to ensure that
the flood victims get clean drinking water at the various rescue centers where
they have been settling currently as a result of the raging floods.
Samwel Onjolo, the Coordinator of the team who received the
drugs on behalf of team has thanked the West Kenya Sugar for the donations.
He says so far the donations received from various partners has
been overwhelming, adding that the items has been given to the flood victims in
the worst affected areas.
