Kiwasco to repair leaked sewer pipe at Kisat area in Kisumu.

The Management the Kisumu water and Sanitation Company has promised to carry out a repair to a major sewer pipe that has been damaged as a result of the heavy rains which has been witnessed in Kisumu.

An Engineer with the Company Moses Jura said the heavy rains witnessed in various parts of Kisumu City has made both the water and sewer pipes to leak in some areas.

Addressing the press at his office in Kisumu, Engineer Jura said already a water pipe next to Kisat area near the Nyanza Golf Club that was damaged as a result of the heavy rains in Kisumu has been repaired and now fully functional.

He says the water pipe that has been repaired has been serving the residents of Bandani areas among others.

He says now the focus is on to repair the sewer pipe that has been interfered with within the same point, adding that this will help to restore sewer operations that is taken to the main sewer once treatment is done.

He has assured the public that the Company intends to do the work within a short period of time to help in stopping the sewerage from spilling into River Kisat.

Jura has appealed to the residents not to vandalize the new pipes both for water and the sewer once they have been repaired.

“We have plans to replace the asbestos pipes with that of GI Pipes and this we believe will be very much okay as a way of coming up with long term solutions,” Eng Jura says.

A section of members of the public in Kisumu have raised concerns on the issue of leaked sewer pipe near Railway line at Kisat area along Kisumu-Busia road where there has been spillage of sewer into river Kisat that drains its water into Lake Victoria next to Nyanza Golf Club.
