KeNHA Petitioned to erect concrete bumps along Nairobi-Kisumu Highway to help reduce road accidents
A section of Kisumu City Residents have petitioned the Kenya National Highways Authority to immediately erect concrete bumps to help minimize road traffic accidents along the said highway.
The residents through the Kisumu City Residents Voice want the Authority to urgently intervene and save the lives of innocent Kenyans who normally find themselves victims of what they have termed as notorious road accidents.
In a letter dated September 22, 2020, Kisumu City Residents Voice Chairman Audi Ogada says despite numerous plea by several families of victims and survivors of these grisly accidents, the Authority has previously failed to intervene, and the situation has since worsened hence needs its immediate action.
“Humanly, it is sad and disheartening to note that within the last six months, more than 30 people are reported to have lost their lives along Nairobi Road specifically between Ojola, Kisumu City, Rabuor all the way to Ahero if not Awasi,” Audi says in his letter.
The lobby says moreover, several cases involving students and children being knocked down are on the rise hence something should surely be done to avert this.
“More to the point, the latest accident happened in this new black spot last Sunday 20/09/2020 just next to Museum directly opposite Nyalenda Railway estate and four people reportedly lost their lives and are yet to buried,” he adds.
It is against this background that the lobby is strongly appealing to the Kenya National Highways Authority to come up with an immediate and effective strategy to effect traffic counts and erect concrete barriers along the said black spots to help reduce or arrests this Carnage permanently.
“Eventually, I hope that this time, you will develop practical approach to this grave matter that is causing anxiety and panic among residents and the general citizen at Large,” Audi further says in his letter.
