Nyando MCAs vow to continue supporting Kisumu Governor's development Agenda

A section of  Members of the County Assembly of Kisumu hailing from Nyando Sub-county in Kisumu  have vowed to continue supporting Kisumu Governor Prof Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o’s development agenda up to the grass root level.

Two Members of the County Assembly of Kisumu Ken Ooko of Ahero Ward and his Onjiko/Awasi counterpart Otieno Ngeta says they are fully behind Kisumu Governor to support him in terms of achieving his development agenda to the electorates of Kisumu County who gave him a mandate to serve them as the second Governor of Kisumu County.

Addressing the mourners in Kodongo area in Ahero ward during the funeral of Joshua Oyamo on Saturday, the two Members of Kisumu County Assembly said they will not be distracted by cheap and petty politics and nothing will prevent them from supporting the current regime of Governor Nyong’o.

They say with the devolution now being entrenched to the grass root through the Village Administration which has been one of the Governor Nyong’o’s Manifesto, they is need to support such an initiative since it will bring services closer to the people at the grass root level which is the real meaning of devolved system of governance.

Ahero Ward MCA Ken Ooko says he has an obligation of representing the people of the ward who elected him to the county Assembly of Kisumu and he must work together with the current serving Governor of Kisumu.

He says currently plans are underway to launch the Ahero Market as a town center after Governor Nyong’o promoted it to Town status under the urban areas and Cities Act, adding that the town status will be launch next month and this will come with huge benefits to the residents of Nyando Sub-county as a whole.

Recently, Kisumu Governor launched Maseno Town after Maseno Trading Center was elevated to a town status in a ceremony that was pomp and colorful.

Ooko says elevating Ahero to a town status is a good move and will support it to the core, adding that such initiative will come with the issue of a town manager and the Board to manage it with funds that will help bring development.

“The only person whom you elected as the Governor of Kisumu County is Prof Peter Anyang Nyong’o and he is the one I must work with because he is the one who has the manifesto for development of our areas. He is equally the one with executive order for development,” Ooko says.

Ooko says no one will intimidate him because of working closely with Kisumu Governor, adding that even if that will lead to his suicide politically then let it be.

“Some people are out to intimidate me because of working closely with Governor Nyong’o but I won’t be cowed. Even if that will be the end of me politically them let it be,” Ooko adds.

On his part, Onjiko/ Awasi Ward Representative Otieno Ngeta also echoed same sentiments as his Ahero ward counterpart.

He says they must work together with the current county Government of Kisumu under Prof. Peter Anyang Nyong’o.

Director of General Administration, Logistics and Infrastructural Development at the County Government of Kisumu Leonard Ogweno Kwama says the County Government of Kisumu under Governor Prof Peter Anyang Nyong’o is currently ongoing with the recruitment of Village Administrators within the villages of all the 35 wards in Kisumu County.

He says the Village Administrators after being employed will put in place the Village Councils which oversee the implementation of development projects within the villages in the wards.

The Director says there will also be Road maintenance teams within the Villages in various wards who will be employed, adding these are the teams which will maintain good roads within the said villages.
