Mwalimu Mwamu Foundation sponsors football tournament for 35 teams in Kisumu East

 A Foundation has sponsored a football tournament for 35 teams in Kisumu East Constituency within Kisumu County.

Mwalimu Japheth Mwamu Foundation has taken the initiative to sponsor the tournament so as help the youth realize their full potential in football thus can help them earn a living for their daily lives.

Addressing the press during the launch of the tournament today at Kunya Primary school in Kisumu East Constituency, the Foundation head Lawyer James Aggrey Mwamu said they are building the young people who can fully participate in the sports activities.

He says the 35 teams will participate in the tournament for the next one month when the finals will be in place after all the team take part in it.

Mwamu says the foundation is meant to promote the youth, environment and dealing with poverty alleviation.

He says during the onset of Corona Virus pandemic, the foundation distributed food reaching to about 5,000 people.

He says during the today’s tournament, the foundation has also managed to give 12 balls to be used during the matches as well as paying for the referees and linesmen who will be officiating the matches for the one month.

“We have now moved to another level because we want to fully support the youth in building their talents in sports both in females and males footballers. This is because sports have become very lucrative and our youth should embrace it,” Mwamu says.

Mwamu who is also the former President of the East African Law Society says he has been prompted to do this because the person the foundation is named after was a great teacher and a renowned sports person hence need to remember him after his demise.

Mwamu says the foundation plans to extend to other sports sub-sectors like basketball, Volleyball, hockey among others.

“We will be sponsoring even races, hockey, netball, basketball among other considered as modern tournament as this will greatly help a lot,” he adds.

George Riaga who is the tournament’s organizer says the exercise has kicked off today and already four teams have played.

He says the exercise will make the youth from the Kisumu East no to be idle too much since they will be engaged during the one month exercise.

During the tournament, Manyatta United scored two goals against their opponents the Chipolopolo from Nyamasaria which scored nil goal.

Urusi United from Manyatta area and Kihancha FC were still both at the field by the time of going to press and none had scored any goal.

During the tournament, the teams braved muddy field and played to their best during the exercised that was marred with a lot of mud and sliding among the players.
