Nyanza Lobby Group castigate ODM Party over intention to impeach Governor Obado

A section of Residents in Nyanza region have castigated the intention of the Orange Democratic Movement {ODM} Party that wants its Migori County Assembly members to impeach Governor Zachary Okoth Obado over corruption allegations.

The Group Known as Nyanza Information Network says the move is ill-advised and should be reversed immediately.

Addressing the press in Kisumu today, the lobby Group led by the its information officer Peter Owuor and its Secretary General Raphael Omeno  said they are perturbed by the ODM Party decision when it summoned the Members of the County Assembly of Migori allied to it with an aim of wanting to impeach Governor Obado who is facing graft related case in court and has since been barred from access his office as Governor.

The Group says the ODM Party should never dictate every matter including those in the counties, adding that they are very much worried how suddenly the party has become a prosecutor, the Judge and prison.

“The Party does not sit at the County Assemblies but both the elected and nominated MCAs who represent the electorates and are doing their three roles of legislation, oversight and representation,” they said.

Owuor says there should never be a political party where no one can raise hands when there is an issues which needs to be addressed, adding that even article ten of the constitution of Kenya 2010 allows for the process of public participation where the views of the public are sought on every issue that affects them in one way of the other.

The lobby says Migori Governor has performed well as compared to other Governors from Nyanza region who have done poorly in terms of development, adding that the records speaks for itself.

“Why is Governor Obado being targeted for impeachment yet some governors in Nyanza have engaged in more corrupt activities and have never developed their counties even an inch,?” they ask.

The lobby say the issue of Handshake should be reviewed if it truly does not address the issues it is meant for.

On his part, Dan Kombodia who has described himself as a hustler and Support Deputy President Dr William Ruto’s 2022 Presidential bid says they are ready to support the DP fully for his quest to the Country’s highest office in the land.

He says there is need to tolerate various political parties in Nyanza region so as to accommodate divergent Political views ahead of the 2022 General Election.

 Raphael Omeno, the Secretary General of the Nyanza Information Network says a number of things are there to be addressed like the issue of the Formula on revenue allocation to counties, adding that these are some of the issues which should be discussed currently.

Charles Ooko Aketch, Kisumu based businessman says the issues of National Referendum as well as the Building Bridges Initiative should not be there unless the issue of the Truth Justice and Reconciliation Report and other issues that were mentioned in the Agenda four addressed first.

“Surely the issue like Ndung’u land report should be addressed. BBI is not the solutions to our problems as Kenyans because since 1992 after the introduction of Multi-party system, our problems have never fully been addressed,” Aketch says.

Oliver Ochieng who represent the Youth has urged them not to be misused by politicians only to dump them after the election.

Ochieng says the youth have now woken up and will do what is right for their own benefit, adding that there is no need to be in one place in terms of politics but will be spread to many political parties.

Ochieng who has declared his full support for the Deputy President says he won’t allow any youth to be misused by any politician only to dump them later.

“We are fully in support for the Deputy President for his quest for the 2022 presidential bid and we won’t be cowed by any form of threat at all,”

Elder Hesbon Oguk Amuomo who hails from Kasipul Kabondo and does business in Kisumu City says he fully support the youth to be in front for supporting good leadership in the country.

ODM Party early this week summoned all the MCAs within County Assembly of Migori who are allied to the party and it resolved that MCAs will carry out impeachment process against Migori Governor Zacharia Okoth Obado, a move that has elicited mixed reactions from different quarters with a section of residents of Migori county claiming that it is a witch hunt against their Governor whom they have described as a performer.
