Kolwa clan crowns lawyer as an Elder, urges him to vie for Parliamentary seat
Members of the larger Kolwa Clan in Kisumu East Constituency have crowned former President of the East African Law Society as an elder urging him to contest for the post of Member of Parliament for the area in the next year’s General Elections.
The elders and some members of the Clergy within the area crowned Lawyer James Aggrey Mwamu as an elder in a ceremony that was pomp and colorful.
Addressing the residents at the Lawyer’s home in Kolwa Central Ward, Bishop Nicholas Ochuka Ayugi and Bishop Thomas Nyawade Owuor says they have welcomed the move by the lawyer to agree in being crowned as the elder.
The ceremony which was attended by Patron of Kolwa Clan attracted elders across the clan is beginning of the long political Journey for the Lawyer Mwamu who has declared his interest to vie for the Kisumu East Parliamentary seat come next year’s elections in August.
They say the Lawyer has been with the public and has greatly help in many ways through the Mwalimu James Japheth Mwamu Foundation which has donated hand washing tanks, sanitizers and face masks to more than 30 schools within Kisumu County as well as providing food items to the residents during this Corona Virus pandemic.
“Our son who is a lawyer by profession has managed to reach a number of the residents whom he has been helping especially in schools through the foundation and it is now time for him to vie for the Kisumu East Parliamentary seat come next year’s General Elections as he has decided to do so,” they say.
During the ceremony, Mwamu was presented with a three legged traditional chair which he sat on, a spear on his right hand, shield on the left hand, traditional hat which he wore on his head and a fly whisk.
After being presented with the items, the residents who attended the event burst into ululations while singing and dancing songs in praise of the lawyer telling him to face the task ahead of him without fear.
“We want you now to face the task ahead of you without any fear and ask for God to protect and defend you at all times in your quest to be the next Member of Parliament for Kisumu East Constituency during the next year’s General elections,” a clergy who attended the function said while praying.
A group of clergy also conducted prayers and presented Mwamu before God asking for His guidance as the lawyer embarks on a political journey.
Mwamu after being crowned an elder thanked the residents of Kisumu East and asked them to support his bid to be their next Member of Parliament.
The elders have promised to fully support Mwamu on his intention to vie for the Parliamentary seat, adding that he has what it takes to lead them as their next Member of Parliament.
Shakeel Shabir has been the Kisumu East Constituency Member of Parliament after his election in the year 2007 and now serving his third term as the area MP.
He took over from Eric Gor Sungu who had served as the area MP.
