Union officials ready for dialogue on the new CBA

A Union has hinted that it is very much ready to dialogue on the issue of Collective Bargaining Agreement for its members employed at the Kenya Power Company limited.

The Kenya Electrical Trades and Allied Workers Union {Ketawu} General Secretary Ernest Nadome says they are all set to engage the management of the Kenya Power Company on the issue of the New CBA.

Addressing the delegates after the elections of the National Officials of the Union at Tom Mboya Labour College, Nadome said as much this is done then there is need to also exercise fairness since what the company is undergoing is known.

He says there is need to negotiate for a new Collective Bargaining Agreement since the other one has expired.

He says by beginning of next month, the Union having a meeting on the issue of negotiating the new CBA for its members.

“We will be have already schedule meeting next month of February to negotiate and we have schedule meeting of all the negotiators,”

Nadome say that the negotiations will be concluded within five days, adding that there is a lot of pressure that there should be no negotiations on Collective Bargaining Agreement when there are still challenges on salary harmonization, overlap among others.

“We will give priority to salary harmonization, Job Grading and Overlap. We are going to table the issues I have mentioned,” he says.

He further hinted that the document has an implementation plan.

“We expect the Management of Kenya Power that when we meet next month, we should agree on the operationalization on the rollout of that implementation,” he further says.

Nadome has urged the officials who have been elected to genuinely defend the rights of workers without fear or favor.

During the elections, all the officials were elected unopposed to serve for a period of five years.

Ernest Nadome was elected the General Secretary for the Union and Kosgey Chirchir as his Deputy.

Vincent Okulo popularly known as Manpower has been elected the National Chairman while Peter Mutua has been elected as the National Treasurer among other National Officials.
