My Govt is not destroying Traders’ Livelihood through demolition-Nyong’o

Kisumu Governor Prof has denied that his Government is busy destroying the Livelihoods of traders through demolitions in Kisumu City as claimed by a section of politicians from the area.

He says the County Government of Kisumu is doing a systematic re-organization of the City to give way for more development projects such as the Non -Motorized Transport.

Addressing the press in Kisumu today during the Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for a shs 3.8 Billion affordable Housing Project, Nyong’o says they are not chasing away the small-scale traders from their businesses within the City but are re-locating them to even a more conducive environment to do businesses.

Nyong’o has accused some Politicians who were once rejected by the people in broad daylight as the people are now using the relocation of traders in the City to make a come-back by inciting them against the County Government of Kisumu.

“They are shouting themselves lame at Funerals even as mourners refuse to listen to them.   We suspect they are holding brief for cartels and Land grabbers some of whom have even rented pavements to unsuspecting traders,” Nyong’o says.

He says such politicians are not telling the story of   Multi-million modern Markets and business parks his County Government has built for the traders relocated from various parts of the city.

He urges the traders to reject such politicians’ cheap propaganda.

“I wish to assure the business community in Kisumu, especially the small-scale traders that each one of them will have spaces to sell their wares. For those who have not been allocated stalls at the Chichwa Market, the iconic Uhuru Business Park will soon open its gates and those affected will be given first priorities,” he adds.

The National Government is currently constructing an Ultra-modern Business Park in Kisumu and it will have up to 10,000 business stalls which traders will occupy upon its completion.
