Sh 71M allocated for second phase of infrastructural development for Muhoroni town

The unveiling of Muhoroni town in Kisumu County has been with a lot of rewards as shs 71Million has been allocated for the second phase of its infrastructural development.

Kisumu Governor Prof Peter Anyang Nyong’o says this has been as a result of partnership between his Government and the State Department of Housing & Urban Development under the Kenya Informal Settlement Improvement Project (KISIP) four settlements within the town.

Addressing the residents of the area during the unveiling of the town, Kisumu Governor said the four settlement targeted in the second phase of the infrastructural development include Bondeni, Shauri Moyo, Shauri Yako, and Swahili which have been planned, surveyed and land ownership regularized.

Nyong’o says 1,246 title deeds have been processed and ready for issuance to the owners.

He says the second phase of the programme has been rolled out and the four settlements are going to benefit from infrastructural development including tarmac roads and drainage works to make the settlements functional-socially and economically.

“In this second phase, Muhoroni town has been allocated 71 million shillings for infrastructure improvement in the four settlement areas including roads and sewer services,” Nyong’o says.

The Kisumu Governor adds that a team of consultants will be on the ground to work with the beneficiary communities to agree on the designs for the said roads.

“This programme supplements my government’s efforts of delivering the much needed services to the people of this town and the Sub County as a whole,” Nyong’o further says.

Governor Nyong’o says in the concluding financial year, the County Government of Kisumu appropriated 150Million for various services in Muhoroni including the rehabilitation of this great stadium.

He says Muhoroni town must be positioned to benefit from other major infrastructure developments that are coming in this area and the region at large.

Nyong’o says that by unveiling Muhoroni and other towns within the Kisumu County, they are preparing resilient cities of the future that will be able to respond to the aspirations of the Sustainable Development Goals such as access to basic human needs of health, education, sanitation; establishing sustainable food production; Better, more accessible health systems and creating jobs and sustainable economic growth for better standards of living.

The County Government of Kisumu has so far unveiled five urban centers to town status that include Ahero, Katito, Kombewa, Maseno and Muhoroni.
