Students suspected of
Homosexuality and lesbianism will not be allowed in Boarding schools
STUDENTS suspected to be practicing homosexuality and
lesbianism within boarding schools they are across the country will not be
allowed to continue being there but will go back to day schools near areas they
come from.
The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology says also
unruly students who also cause chaos and wants to go back home will also not be
allowed to be in boarding schools but will instead be allowed to do their
studies in days schools next to their homes.
Addressing the Principals of National Schools and Special
schools across the country, Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha
urged the Principals of all Boarding Secondary schools not to allow such like
students back in the institutions once they
have been found to be suspects in such matters.
Magoha says this will be a way of reducing cases of
indiscipline in boarding secondary school which has led to burning of some
schools.
He urges schools
Principals not to accept such students back to be in the boarding schools once
they have been found as culprits.
“If there are students practicing homosexuality and
lesbianism in boarding schools then they must go and learn in day schools near
their homes,” Magoha says.
He says the responsibilities of the Principal of secondary schools
is for the majority, adding that the Principals should not accept back a few
elements of students who are rogue and indiscipline.
“Don’t accept such unruly students back in school. Your
responsibility is for the greater majority,” Magoha says.
The Education Cabinet Secretary says there is no need for
the re-introduction of caning in schools because of a few students who behaves
badly, adding that such students need to be identified and taken to approved
schools and leave the rest who are ready to study to do so peacefully.
“We don’t have to re-introduce caning in schools because of
some few element of students who behaves badly. Such students need to be
identified and taken to approved schools,” he adds.
Magoha at the same time urges students not to engage in
burning schools since arson is a criminal offense punishable by law
Magoha has maintained that the new system of Education known
as Competency Based Curriculum is the way to go and urged Principals of
Secondary school to fully back it but with their opinions being very important.
He says secondary schools should be ready a to accommodate
the first batch of students of Competency Based Curriculum in the year 2023,
adding that the Government is ready to ensure that the infrastructure needed
like classrooms are put in place ahead of arrival of CBC in Secondary schools.
