Govt told to extend financial support to private schools to establish junior secondary

THE National Government have been urged to extend financial support to all private schools across the country in order to establish junior secondary schools in readiness for Competency Based Curriculum in secondary schools come next year.

The National Chairman of the Kenya Private Schools Association Engineer Charles Ochome says the National Government should extend the financial support to the private school in form of Concessional loans which is payable at affordable interest rates for the establishment of facilities for junior secondary schools.

Addressing the Kenya Private Schools Association’s thanksgiving ceremony for the National Chairman and other National Executive Committee members held in Kisumu, Engineer Ochome said this will assist establish adequate learning facilities for the Junior Secondary schools to supplement the ones that will be in secondary schools.

Ochome says the move will be okay since the facilities in Public Secondary schools are overstretched.

The Kenya Private Schools Association National Chair at the same time has called for more funding to be availed to the education sector for the investment in quality lives of all the children and secure brighter future for them.

“All Children are Kenyan children irrespective of the institutions that they choose to enroll. There is no public or private child,” Ochome says.

The Kenya Private Schools Association's appeals comes as the National Government has said it will not allocate funding to Private schools to put up classes for Junior Secondary schools in readiness for Competency Based Curriculum next year.

Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha is said to have urged the Private schools to have classes for CBC in Junior Secondary school at their cost.
