Schools Principals told to allow adult students to obtain ID Cards

Principals of Secondary schools within Kisumu East Constituency have been told to allow adult students to register for ID cards.

This has been echoed by Former President of the East Africa law Society James Aggrey Mwamu.

Mwamu who is eyeing the Kisumu East Parliamentary  seat on ODM party Ticket during the August 9 Polls says some Principals are not ready to accommodate the officials from the Registration of Persons from Kisumu East Sub County who normally visit schools within the area to register adult students who have attained the age of 18 years.

He says some of them have been swayed by cheap politics hence are not ready to allow to such an important exercise to take place in their schools within the said Constituency, claiming that some politicians are out to frustrate such an important exercise.

Mwamu says the Identity cards will be very much important in the lives of the students after completing their secondary educations especially on matters of Hire Education Loans Board application as well as obtaining the Voters card so as to participate in the forthcoming General Elections.

Mwamu says the exercise which he has been sponsoring has been overwhelming and has been benefitting the local communities and the students at Large.

He says the process of acquiring the Identity cards now takes less than a week, adding that those who have obtained it and don’t have voters card will be assisted to obtain such an important document in the electoral process.

Mwamu who has today visited two schools namely Angira Secondary school in Kajulu and Kasagam Secondary school in Nyalenda A Ward says today alone, an estimated 300 students have been registered to have Identity Cards at Kasagam Secondary school.

He adds that about 40 people from the local community have also been registered to obtain ID cards.

He adds that the National Government had declared that the document will be processed within three days and it will be obtained by their owners.

He has further appealed to residents to continue registering as voters during this second mass voter registration exercise, adding that this is the surest way of ensuring that good leaders are voted.
