Greater Kolwa residents in Kisumu East resolve to support lawyer for the MP’s seat

THE Residents of the Greater Kolwa sub-clan in Kisumu East have fully endorsed a lawyer from the area to be their preferred candidate for the seat of Member of Parliament during the August 9 General Elections.

The residents have decided in unison that they are fully behind Former President of the East African Law Society James Aggrey Mwamu to be their next Member of Parliament to replace the current MP Shakeel Shabir who is serving his third term in office.

Led by the patron of the greater Kolwa Raphael Ochiel, Patron of Kolwa Central {Komollo} Dr. John Rao Nyaoro who is also the Chairman of the Kolwa Development Association, all the Elders from the greater Kolwa that comprise of Kolwa East, Kolwa Central and Kolwa West {Manyatta B and Nyalenda A}, the residents say Lawyer Mwamu is the one who has what it takes to be the next Member of Parliament for Kisumu East.

During a ceremony held at Nyamasaria Primary school and attended by over 250 residents of Kolwa, the Elders called for total unity among the residents of the entire Kisumu East constituency during this electioneering period.

The Elders and the residents of Kolwa now say they will approach the residents of Kajulu area within the constituency about their decision to endorse Mwamu and will ask for their full support.

Elder Hezron Opiyo Asudi says they have now fully endorsed Mwamu as the preferred candidate for the seat of Member of Parliament and will be fully behind him.

He says other aspirants for the seat from the great Kolwa should now step down in favor of Mwamu and fully support him, adding that the will engage them in a discussion to support Mwamu’s bid.

Dr Nyaoro, the patron of Kolwa Central and Chairman of the Kolwa Development Association says he will go by the decision of the residents of Kolwa who have endorsed Mwamu.

Mwamu has accepted the endorsement saying he will work with all the residents should he clinch the ODM Party ticket and get elected as the area Member of Parliament during the August 9 polls.

He says the deplorable states of roads within the constituency as well as low education standards will be some of the issues he will address as the area next MP should he be elected.

“Part of the problem is that we have the MP who does not work closely with other Governments institutions to make sure we have better roads, good dispensaries and hospitals,” he says

He adds that the area needs a Member of Parliament who can work with both the County and National Government to develop the area.

“There is need to represent the interest of residents of Kisumu east, Currently, the voice of Kisumu East residents in Parliament is very quiet so we need a Member of Parliament who can articulate issues concerning our constituency. This is part of the reasons as to why I have declared my interest for this seat,” he adds.

He has urged the residents of the constituency to continue register as voters during the ongoing mass voter registration exercise carried out by the Electoral Body.

He adds that legislation and oversight will also be part of his roles as the next Member of Parliament for the area.

Kisumu East Constituency has five wards namely Kolwa East, Kolwa Central, Kajulu, Manyatta B and Nyalenda A.

Already various aspirants for the Member of Parliament seat have declared their interests.

They include Lawyer James Aggrey Mwamu, former Director of Kenya Sugar Board Nicholas Oricho, Former Kisumu County public service Board Chairman Nashon Oguya, Charles Odhong, Betty Akinyi, Obondo Oselu among others.
