Team to mobilize Raila’s Presidential vote in Nyanza formed

A team has been formed in order to mobilize residents of Nyanza region to turn up in large numbers to register as voters in readiness for voting ODM Leader Raila Odinga as the fifth President of Kenya during the forthcoming General Election slated for August 9, this year.

The team comprising of former, current Members of County Assembly and women aspirants eyeing various political posts will crisscross Nyanza region during this period of Second Mass Voter registration exercise being conducted by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission {IEBC}.

The Team which is known as Raila’s Presidential Vote Mobilization Squad is led by Ruth Adhiambo Odinga and has begun its work of mobilizing residents of Kisumu County to get out and register as voters ahead of August polls.

Addressing a gathering of volunteers for the exercise in Nyahera within Kisumu West Sub-county, Head of the team Ruth Adhiambo said they have realized that women are great mobilizers hence can be able to influence people to get out and register as voters in the ongoing exercise that IEBC carries out throughout the country.

Adhiambo says the team has started mobilizing all the women in Kisumu County to come out in large numbers and talk to the people to turn up for the voter registration exercise, adding that it will also move in other counties and team up with volunteers in those counties for the exercise.

“As women, we really know who among our children in the society have got Identity Cards without voters’ card and we also know those who don’t have IDs and we want to mobilize everyone to ensure that they have the voters’ card and vote during the forthcoming General Elections,” Adhiambo says.

She says the team will also ensure that the narrative that some people are talking about that “we have already bagged the Presidency” is not there until everyone will be registered as a voter and participate in the next polls by voting Raila Amollo Odinga.

Adhiambo says once the mobilization exercise to get people registered as voters become successful, the team will now  focus on walking from door to door to mobilize the people to now vote for Raila Odinga’s bid as the fifth President of Kenya.

“Our aim is to ensure that Nyanza region vote between 90 to 100 percent during the next polls and this will be possible by mobilizing our people to register as voters and cast their votes during the polls,” Adhiambo adds

Adhiambo further says that other regions are ready to support Raila’s Presidential bid and Nyanza region should be in the forefront to have many people registered as voter then cast their votes.

“We must ensure that in Nyanza we get the 25 percent of the votes needed and nationally, we must have 50 plus one percent votes needed for one to be declared as a winner in the first round as President elect,” she adds.

She says the exercise will go on up to the village level within the six counties in Nyanza region namely Kisumu, Homa Bay, Siaya, Migori, Kisii and Nyamira.

Adhiambo says the team has begun its work in Kisumu County since it is bedrock of politics in Nyanza region, adding that their major focus is on mobilization of Presidential votes for Raila Odinga.
