Widow's sons protest her arrest over land in
Ksm
Sons of a middle
aged widow from Nyalenda A ward in Kisumu County have condemned what they
have termed as abrupt and unlawful arrest of their mother by officers
they claim are from the Kenya Prisons Service over issue of a land.
Through the family of
the late Mzee Malachi Obiero, one of the sons identified as Fredrick Norman
Andiego, the family claim that their mother identified as Evelyn Akinyi Obiero
was arrested yesterday at 2:00pm within their land bordering Prison shamba
at Wigwa within Nyalenda A ward.
Andiego claims that
they have been having an issue in the land which they have been staying more
than ten years ago after the Kenya Prison claimed it is part of their
land.
According to Andiego
who spoke to the Press at the site, the land belongs to their family which they
inherited from their grandfather.
He claims that some
Prison wardens came to their home earlier before the arrest of their mother and
assaulted one of his brothers while wanting them to vacate land.
He claims that the
officers visited their home today using their lorry which they used to ferry
their mother after her arrest to unknown destination.
They have appealed to
the Government to intervene and help them solve the matter about the land which
they claim they buried their late father there in 2016.
Unconfirmed Report indicates
that the widow was released later in the evening on the day of her arrest.
It later emerged that those who arrested her accused her of trespassing to a nearby land that belongs to the Kenya Prisons Service.
The family no longer stay there for fear of their lives and have since relocated just within Kisumu City.
The Kenya Prisons Service could not be reached on to comment on the matter.
