Clergy want Police to investigate incident at Kenyatta’s Farm and Odinga’s Company

A group of Clergy from Nyanza region now want the Inspector General of Police Japheth Koome and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to launch immediate investigations into the incident that led to the destruction of property at a farm associated with the Kenyatta family and apprehend the suspected criminals.

Led by the Chairman of the Nyanza Council of Church Leaders Apostle Dr. Washington Ogonyo Ngede, they Clergy have strongly condemned the incidences where suspected criminals invaded a farm associated with Kenyatta’s family at Kamakis in Northlands area within Kiambu County on Monday this week.

They have also condemned the attack that was also witnessed on the same day at East African Spectre Company that is associated with Odinga’s family where suspected hooligans pelted it with stones and damaged the property.

They have further condemned the recent burning of the PCEA Church and a mosque in Kibra constituency in Nairobi during the peaceful protest.

They say as church leaders in the country, they view this as an attempt of creating anarchy and unnecessary tension in the country.

Addressing the press in Kisumu today, the ten Clergy including Apostle Dr. Washington Ogonyo Ngede, Arch Bishop Julius Otieno, Bishop Dr William Abuka, Arch Bishop Patrick Ligawa, Bishop Dr. Evans Ooko and Bishop John Onyango Ober, Bishop Collins Ogechi, Bishop Hannington Olambo,, Reverend Moses Namasaka among other clergy said the act of hooliganism is uncalled for and must not be allowed to thrive in any part of this great nation.

The clergy say the hooligans who are taking advantage of a peaceful demonstration should not be allowed as they breach peace and tranquility because their aim is to loot and damage properties of hard working fellow Kenyans.

“We call upon the police to swing into action and apprehend the perpetrators of these heinous acts meted on the two prominent families’ property,” they say.

They have urged Kenyans to carry out peaceful protests which is their constitutional right as enshrined in the Constitution of Kenya 2010.

The Clergy at the same time condemned hooligans who harassed women and other innocent Kenyans during the recent peaceful protests in Kisumu, adding that this is uncalled for and no one should be blocked from accessing places of their work simply because some hooligans illegally block the roads during peaceful demonstration.

“Demonstrations should be peaceful and no one should interfere with fellow citizens in any way. We call upon the Government to take action, investigate and arrest those who are engaging in any act of hooliganism during the peaceful demonstrations,” they add.

They have appealed to President Dr. William Ruto to wave down and agree to meet leaders from other political divide and discuss problems bedeviling the country currently because peace can be achieved when parties agree to sit down and discuss issues as a nation.

“Isaiah 1:18 says that come now and let us reason together, says the Lord. Though your sins are like scarlet. They shall be as white as snow,” They further add.

They have further appealed to the President to urgently address the issue of high cost of living.
