Elected Leaders from Nyanza region have warned anyone not to
try again to assassinate Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance Leader Raila
Odinga.
From the four Governors of Migori, Kisumu, Homa Bay and
Siaya Counties to the Members of Parliament from various constituency in the
region, the leaders claim that there has been a direct attempt to eliminate
Odinga following his firm stand on the peaceful protest across the country on
the issue of high cost of living and electoral fraud.
Addressing the mourners during the funeral of Kenya’s first
Female Member of Parliament Mama Grace Onyango in Gem Constituency within Siaya
County, the Four Governors and the Members of Parliament said the incident in
Nairobi on Thursday during the peaceful protest in which Raila’s vehicle was
shot seven times is a clear indication that some people within the current
regime are out to eliminate Odinga.
Siaya Governor James Orengo says anyone trying to do the
unthinkable to Azimio Leader will really regret such actions.
Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang Nyong’o says force and violence can’t
be shield and defender of the national but justice can be.
“Kenyans must be ready to fiercely defend the gains of
Independence that the hardly fought for to achieve,” Governor Nyong’o says.
Migori Governor George Ochillo Ayacko says the Government
has a fully responsibility of protecting all its citizens and not to eliminate
anyone.
Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga says the country has reached
a “point of no return”.
Siaya Senator Dr Oburu Oginga claims that he has information
that some people from the current government want to end the life of Raila
Odinga.
Oburu Oginga is the Elder brother of Raila Odinga who are
both sons of Kenya’s first Vice President Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.
“If you attempt to take the life of Raila, I tell you that Kenya
will be worse than Rwanda,” Oburu says.
A number of Members of Parliament also echoed similar
sentiments led by Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi who is also the Ugunja MP.
Wandayi says what they witnessed at Outer Ring Road in
Nairobi on Thursday was very unfortunate since it was attempted assassination
of Odinga.
MPs Martin Owino{Ndhiwa}, Millie Mabona{Suba North}, Rosa
Buyu{Kisumu West}, Peter Masara{Suna West}, Dr Joshua Oron{Kisumu Central},
Aduma Owuor{Nyakach}, Dr James Nyikal{Seme}, Ruth Odinga{Women Rep Kisumu
County and her Homa Bay Counterpart Dr. Joyce Osogo Bensouda also warned anyone
with an intention to assassinate Raila Odinga.
Azimio Leader Raila Odinga who was also present during the
funeral maintained that the peaceful protest will continue on Monday next week
despite irrespective of what the police will do.
He claims attempts to eliminate the azimio leaders has been
allegedly planned and orchestrated from the top leadership of the country.
“A police officer may not have an intention to shoot you but
they can do that if they get some orders from above,” Odinga adds.
He says Article 37 of the Kenyan Constitution allows for
picketing, adding that peaceful demonstrations will continue across the
country, adding that there will be a mother of all demonstrations in Nairobi.
He says the peaceful demonstrations is not for a particular
community but for all Kenyans.
